A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Douro Valley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We just returned from an unforgettable stay at Quinta do Silval, and it truly exceeded all expectations. This family-run hotel and winery is a rare and special find—full of charm, history, and warm hospitality.
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the owners themselves, who are hands-on and genuinely attentive to every guest. Originally, we booked just one night, but we quickly extended our stay—it's that special.
The wine is phenomenal, and the winery tour offered a fascinating glimpse into the estate’s rich history, dating all the way back to 1870. The fine dining experience was world-class, with local flavors perfectly paired with their own award-winning wines.
What truly sets Quinta do Silval apart is its setting—one of the few quintas with a pool and a separate kids' pool, complete with tiki umbrellas and loungers overlooking endless rows of vineyards in every direction. It was perfect for our family, offering both relaxation and a uniquely Douro experience.
Breakfast was a delight each morning, featuring fresh fruit from the garden and a variety of local offerings. The rooms were well-equipped, cool, and comfortable. And the grounds? Absolutely stunning—lush gardens and blooming roses line every pathway, creating a peaceful, picturesque atmosphere.
If you're heading to the Douro Valley, don't miss out on this extraordinary hidden gem. Quinta do Silval is the kind of place you’ll want to return to...
Read moreThe most idyllic warm friendly hotel - a little bit of paradise. As an older honeymoon couple we were looking for an elegant hotel, peace and quiet, good wine and food, rest and relaxation and this charming family run vineyard and hotel had it all. We adored the pool with its panoramic views, surrounded by roses with the odd cheeky bird dipping a drink from the pool. Lots of Sun beds, with a lovely clean toilet, shower and changing facilities. A WhatsApp message to Beatriz to organise a chilled bottle of wine and snacks was a super thing to be offered. Such lovely staff, beautifully tended property and rooms. Breakfast was a treat. freshly picked figs, an array of cold meats and cheeses, fresh pastries and rolls, eggs cooked any way including my husbands favourite omelette with ham and cheese. We took advantage of a tour of the vineyard and wine making process, tasted so many wonderful wines and learnt so much about port production and the family who have produced wine here for generations. This is probably one of the best places to stay in the Duro Valley with great access not only to Pinaho and the Duro River but some great roads to some great towns in the area. The hostess speaks English, German, French, Spanish fluently and will happily recommend things to do in the area. Do try all the wines and Ports on offer they are quite wonderful and we feel blessed to have been able to stay in such a...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about Quinta do Silval. The area in Douro Valley is breathtaking, it worth a drive. But did it worth a stay? About the drive, DO NOT FOLLOW your GPS or Google Maps as you might end up like us on a very steep horse trail in-between the vines. It was our scariest drive EVER. About the stay: This is a winery, right? But there was no welcome drink, none, not a bottle, not a glass. You need to pay for every little thing. The room was rustic and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The wine tasting is a 25 euros joke. The person presenting the wines had zero knowledge about wines (a white, a red, a late harvest). We had the sweetest wine first, and the wines were mediocre. We looked online, and yes, Quinta do Silval makes fine, expensive ports. The restaurant offered dinner for 35 euros per person, and it was, again, mediocre and expensive. No beverage included! I bought half a bottle of late harvest, and the bill was made for a full bottle. I needed 3 dialogues in 2 languages to get the right price on the bill. The breakfast was OK. But the coffee machine did not have beans until late. There is a pool, very clean, in a gorgeous surrounding. Overall, we paid almost 250 euros for both for one night here. We do not recommend this site, sorry. It is badly managed, it is bluntly an expensive tourist trap, as there is...
