The best thing about the house was definitely the central heating! The house lacks of cleaning and care for the overall spaces.
The advertising on booking says that it has 6 bedrooms but in fact it has only 5, the sixth cannot be called a bedroom! (See picture with the ping-pong table)! In the bedrooms we found pillows with stains, no care for the bed sheets nor for the blankets or duvets. Beds are old and creaking. In one of the bedrooms was dripping water drops from the ceiling.
Too many ruined, stained or damaged furniture. Example wobbling chair, worn out mirrors, etc.
The bathrooms are outdated, with mold. In 3 of them no water protection, every showers means a bathroom floor full of water which becomes slippery, therefore, dangerous. The shower towels are old and even teared.
The curtains in the dinning room are not working properly. Some don’t even open.
In the kitchen the best is to just laugh. It seems big but in fact it’s really narrow , impossible for 3 people to be preparing a meal at the same time. There isn’t any decent cutting knives, one broken cut board, no toaster, no blender or hand blender, no kitchen clothes, not enough tea cups nor mugs, the cooking pans are scarce and the frying pans are so bad the every time someone used one someone else was asking what is this smell!!
The living room doesn’t have the couches like shown in the pictures on booking.
The stairs are oddly tall, dangerous for kids, even adults need to be careful going up and down.
The gym and game saloon, well, what can I say, the billiard is uneven so it’s there but no one can really play a decent game. The gym machines look abandoned and not inspiring trust.
What put us off was the cleaning. To feel on a safer side we washed everything before using.
We don’t intend to use the pool as it’s winter time with minimum around 1degree max around 11 degrees. However if we wanted we couldn’t the water was green, really green.
To last, we never received a briefing informing about anything, for example how to control the central heating, or the water is from a well (this is a really important point to be mentioned). We had to find out on our own where was the electricity board as was going down pretty often.
Overall it’s too much money for what is worth it! Do not...
Read moreWe stayed the night of May 3, 2013. This is a house (quinta?) located on a couple of acres outside Amarante in a rural setting. The people make up a nice, young family on a small property where they raise a few sheep, one horse, some chickens and a dog or two. We were treated to sheep-shearing as well as to share the interests of the family, such as ancient motorcycles and other collectables. We were made to feel part of the family. Together they speak some English, enough to get by. They were very eager to please us and asked us perhaps too often if there was anything we need. Nice people. We opted to have the wife cook out dinner, baked chicken and other “typical” foods. It was most pleasant, and the wine just fine. It was a nice experience for us to see the typical Portuguese family in their home setting. The price was probably too high, but we both enjoyed our stay. If you want a comfortable lodging and nice people, this is a...
