Herdade da Amendoeira is where I switch off from work, can take a deep breath and just relax. Catarina, the hostess, is extremely nice and very thoughtful. She just knows how to make you feel welcomed. She had put up a table and a couple of chairs outside our room, in case we felt like sitting there and read or draw. Also, for breakfast, she takes a very discreet glance at your table and asks if you would like more bread/scrambled eggs/etc. Herdade da Amendoeira makes its own cheese, jams and honey, which you can ravish in first thing in the morning. We always go for a long walk with our dog and a couple of the other dogs living at herdade da Amendoeira. If it's summer, we daze a couple of hours at the pool. Arraiolos, the nearby village, is always a good place to go, as it has amazingly good restaurants and beautiful architecture. I brought some bars of soap with me, which I put in my scarf drawer, so every time I use one, the smell takes me back to that feeling I get when I'm at herdade...

We were treated to a home cooked dinner, wine tasting and a tour of the distillery and their traditional cheese making factory. Wonderful escape from the urban side of Portugal! Read moreWe loved this place. The hostess was very friendly, speaks perfect english and took care of us: fresh lemonade at the swimming pool on arrival. Bedroom nice and large, with airconditioning. Beautiful place tot walk around annd see the sheep and geese. Small tour to see production of cheese and delicious tasting including homemade liqor. The hostess gave good recommendations for restaurant in Arraiolos (Republica, 15 min drive) and walking tour in Evora (Vagar walking tours). Only comment my side is that breakfast starting from 9.30am is pretty late....
