I and my son were on a biking tour from Porto Portugal to Santiago Spain from March 23rd to 29th. Our Bike tour company booked us at different hotels each day. Every night after showering our tour guide would takes us to different restaurants for dinner before retiring for the night early to start our bike ride to the next destination the next day. On the third night (March 25th, 2025) we stayed at HoteL Portas do Sol in Caminha Portugal. This night the guide suggested us to have dinner at the hotel as the view from the dinning lounge over the water to Spain was beautiful. We took the suggestion and had dinner at the hotel dinning lounge at 7:30pm. I had the Linguini Caril Taila and my son had the Adulto Spaguetti. After dinner we both went to bed around 10:30pm as we were going to start early in the morning for our next segment of the bike tour. At round midnight my son started vomiting violently and it went on till 8am in the morning. My son got food poising for dinner eating Adulto Spaguetti at the hotel dinning Lounge. In the morning on March 26th, 2025 I spoke to the general manager of the hotel who in the beginning saying that over 60 people eat dinner and no one had any problems, at which point I asked him if anyone of them had the Adulto Spaguetti and he said yes, at this point I asked him to show me the receipt proving that someone eat the same dish the night before but he was reluctant to show me the receipt so I said I do not believe him. In conclusion the general manager allowed my son to stay in the room till he recovered and provided two bottles of ginger ale and did not charge us for the dinner. At around 1pm in the afternoon my Son felt well enough to take a shower and our bike tour operator transported us and bikes to the next hotel destination. I think there is a food quality problem at the hotel restaurant and needs to be checked before another guest gets food poising. We lost a whole day of...

Read moreI don't know what's the issue with this hotel, but I find it to be and extremely strange place. I'm leaving tired from laying in bed at 2AM, after being awoken twice by young teenage-looking kids in the hallway slamming on doors, giggling, and speaking at full voice with no respect for anyone in the hotel. It's certainly a beautiful building with generally friendly staff, but you have to basically beg to buy a coca cola after 11:30pm on a Friday night, and there's essentially nothing else in the way of food late night. Was happy when I was told there's a bar at check-in at front desk, but it was of course actually closed. They also tried to sell me a spa package at 1130PM (spa closed) knowing I intended to check out the next morning. If you ask a question about anything you are going to be looked at like an extraterrestrial and given a "hmmm sorry." Water in the shower is luke warm at best. I'm currently on Caminho de Santiago and thought this would be a great place to rest for the night. I've slept in quieter and less bizarre albergues. Mattress feels like a cracker. This place was probably great years ago, but being in the hospitality industry myself, it's easy for me to recognize that they're skimping and stretching as much as they can to maintain an image which is no longer consistent with the offerings. If you're traveling to this area do yourself a favor and opt for something else. All in all, price wasn't too bad but certainly the bill isn't in line with the feeling of refreshment I expected to have upon...
