We walked in to a dark dingy and very cold reception lounge area, which smelt damp and musty.||The receptionist was extremely friendly and pleasant, the only good thing to be said about this dreadful establishment. After a lot of trouble trying to pay by card we gave up and paid cash, clearly intended by the owner. Our understanding was we could use the kitchen, I cannot eat gluten and was told they could not provide a gluten free breakfast and could not use the kitchen. We were shown to our “superior room” this had a huge king sized mattress in front of a small headboard, ridiculous.||All the furniture was extremely dated the room freezing cold and the traffic noise very loud. Then I went in the bathroom the toilet seat almost came away when lifted, the over bath shower looked really grim.||We called the receptionist who went to call the owner, then decided we were not staying so walked down to reception where we were told the owner was coming. This took a good 20 minutes even though he was less than a 100 yards away.||We asked for a refund the owner became argumentative and very obnoxious, showed us another room. This amazingly was worse and stank of stale tobacco.||So we walked out preferring to loose our money than argue more.||He then informed booking.com we were a “ no show” in order to keep our payment without paying them. I am amazed anybody stays there,...
Read moreThe guest house is located 10-15 mins by car from Coimbra city center. It is nicelly decorated on what I think is the owners style. We stayed inside the house on the 2nd floor so keep that in mind if you have limited mobility ( 2 flight of stairs at least) The rooms were spacious and the bed is really big ( I could fit my 3 kids and myself in it) and the wc was decent. Ac and TV are a plus and worked perfectly. The unfortunate part was the room cleaning and even though I followed the rules and left my keys for cleaning I was unfortunate to not have it cleaned and ended up cleaning it myself. It was only properly cleaned on my 3rd day there. On my mother's bedroom the same happened so the cleaning part would have the lowest scoring. The owners even though available were not properly the nicest and were borderline rude and what I think racist. I felt that in 3 different occasions from both the owner and his wife so it was not a only time thing. The outdoors are nice and spacious, the kids have a small playground and the swimming pool allows you to refresh on those hotter days. Limited parking inside but when parking second hand you can leave the keys to allow the owner to move the car. Overall the place is nice but like I said my experience was not the most welcoming one, I saw them with different posture with other people so give a try and get your...
Read moreDo not stay here. If you have any problem the owner will try to blame you. We tried to be fair and give notice to leave requesting a refund of unused days, when in fact we should have a full refund. Please see photos to see for yourself black mould in the bedroom, broken bathroom floor tiles.|To be clear the suite does not have a hot tub only the spa bath mentioned separately, and as per photos you probably wouldn't want to risk that. The bathroom was dangerous with no slip mat for the shower and an old towel as a bath mat on the marble tiles. |The suite does not have private access, it's through the house, but you have an extra door with no lock into a random piece of corridor that leads to your room. |They were working right next to the pool adding plastic decking, with electrical power tools while guests were using the pool. This stopped after booking.com stepped in. |He said he would only refund remainder, minus spurious charges, if he sold the room but has not released it for sale. We will now have to do a chargeback through the credit card company. |I'm sure the owner will respond with bad excuses but the images speak...
