I wasn't going to write a review on this accommodation, as it was the worst experience we had during our 33-day pilgrimage from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela. However, I feel compelled to defend my friend's remarks, which were disparaged by the owner's response. When she mentioned a "skewed" view, she was referring to the response to a terrible situation caused by the owner.
I made the booking, and I received two messages through the booking system indicating that check-in was at 3 PM. At NO time did we suggest or ask to check in earlier. We arrived at 2:10 PM and I approached the small gate at the property's front. My friend rang the bell at another gate. We waited and saw another guest exit through the front door, but no one came to the gate. I walked through the small gate that was open to knock on the door, and at that point, the female owner appeared and began verbally attacking me.
She mentioned a dangerous dog and insisted that check-in wasn't until 3 PM. I waited for her to calm down and let me speak. I apologised for walking through the open gate and explained that we didn't wish to check in but merely wanted to leave our bags and return at 3 PM. She said “Oh my god, check-in is at 3”. Her anger persisted, so I said we would just take our bags and return later.
When we came back, her behaviour was even worse. She berated us for disrespecting her check-in rule and told us she didn't care or need to understand how long we had walked or how hot the day had been.
We are three women in our late 50s and early 60s, never described as unruly or disrespectful, yet her horrible behaviour continued into the night. We spent the night stressed about the incident and just wanted to leave as early as possible the next day.
I would not stay at this accommodation again. I spoke with many other pilgrims who had similar stories about staying at this accomodation.
If you choose this accommodation, do not arrive before 3 PM, even after a long walk in the hot sun and as a senior. The owner doesn't care or need to understand your situation.
I assure you there are other properties with hosts who do care and understand. In fact, every other property we stayed at demonstrated this.
I expect the owner to write another disparaging response to my review as this seems to be her actions when she receives honest feedback not just from my friend but...
Read moreWe were advised that check in was 3pm, we arrived at 2.10pm hoping to be able to drop off our packs and return at 3pm. Unfortunately my friend walked through the small gate to knock on the door, because no one came out when we pushed the bell (several times) as she approached the door, the female owner arrived at the other gate. She was quite aggressive from the start, she was furious that my friend walked through (the opened gate) because she said there was a vicious dog in the yard and did she not see the sign (there was no sign on the small gate) she proceeded to tell us that check in was 3pm and that she had also advised us, we asked could we just leave our packs as we had walked 24+ km and had to walk another 500m to the only cafe in the area. She then said OH MY GOD, we were shocked and said, no problem we will take them with us. On return I said, I hope you’re in a better mood, unfortunately that wasn’t the case and things got worse as she threatened to kick us out! This has been our worst experience during the whole Camiño from Lisbon to Santiago and we would not recommend this...
Read moreAre you on the caminho; worth to plan this b&b as a stop. Are you visiting the region; this is a perfect base for your tour. Lea & Andrus welcomed us warmly after a hot day of walking with a cool drink, and a late lunch. Their cuisine is outstanding. We had all three meals, and the were perfectly in balance, a beautiful fusion of the Estonian and Portuguese kitchen. Most ingredients are coming of their own garden. Fresh and bio. The rooms are comfortable,...
