🏨 Room Quality|The room was EXCELLENT. We were happily assigned a room located very close to the reception, and especially the gym (which we used daily).||Bed and linens were very comfortable.||TV had Chromecast, and while it is a bit finicky, I was able to get Amazon Prime streaming from my iPad. ||🚿 Cleanliness|Room and bathroom were very clean, and they came by twice -- so turn-down service was included. ||Given this resort is essentially in the middle of a gigantic forest, I appreciated their attentive efforts at cleanliness since it is extremely easy for a fly or two to get in.||Shout-out to Mohammed who was very friendly and cleaned our room each day.||🌐 WiFi and Connectivity|The Wi-Fi was included and it worked well. ||👥 Staff and Service|The staff are the "secret sauce" to this resort. Huge shout-out to the GM, Miguel Plantier, who was extremely helpful. We also enjoyed meeting his colleague Miguel Silva who greeted us at check-in.||Aamir at the front desk went above and beyond to help us, especially on the first night to get into their pop-up onsite restaurant Canalha which was booked up that night (we didn't want to drive at night into the town about 10-15 minutes away -- that's where most of the restaurants are located).||Generally, they went ABOVE AND BEYOND for anything we needed. My wife ran out of dental floss, and they got us a replacement in the morning for super cheap. I also was dealing with a sports injury to my knee, so they were great about sending ice packs to my room each day.||🍽️ Food and Beverage|The hotel has 2 primary restaurants -- their pop-up (which may not be open, depending on when you go), and their main restaurant called "Sem Porta" (which literally means "without a door") and is located next to their check-in area at the front desk. ||We did breakfast at Sem Porta each day, and we did their dinner on one night.||FOOD CIRCLE is an absolute must -- this is a special dining experience that is only available for about 10 people (there are only ~10 seats) and it is Tuesday through Saturday (closed on Sunday and Monday to give the chef those days off). All of the food is cooked directly in front of you in an open fire. It's like a Michelin Star-restaurant type of experience, but in front of a campfire -- super intimate and was a huge highlight.||My wife and I also did a private PICNIC that was very cost-effective and was the #1 highlight of our entire trip to Portugal (we also visited Porto and Lisbon). It was ultra romantic, and the setup was just phenomenal -- glad that we coordinated the menu in advance.||🏊 Amenities and Facilities|They have world-class amenities -- for example, we did the gym daily and it is state-of-the-art (there is even your own boxing ring, which I've never seen at any hotel before).||Onsite parking is free and plentiful.||🌇 Location|The hotel's "signature" is their Beach Club, which they also own, but it is about a 10 minute drive from the hotel (there are shuttles too). Given that the hotel is literally situated on a gigantic forest, kind of impossible/impracticable for there to be a beach so I totally get it.||We did the Beach Club briefly, but the weather wasn't super warm so we entertained ourselves with other things.||DEFINITELY go into the town, which is about 10-15 minutes of a drive. We went during the daytime and visited a lot of small/cute shops, restaurants, etc. and enjoyed it immensely (the hotel also highly recommended it).||💵 Value for Money|Sublime is not cheap so expect to pay what you would similarly pay at any world-class resort anywhere else in the world.||Overall though, I felt it was a very relaxing "wellness" like experience.||📝 Extra Notes|Make sure to rent a car -- most likely you would do this from Lisbon since that is the closest city. The drive itself is extremely easy (a little more than an hour), but the only hassle was the actual renting process since we got it from Lisbon Airport and it is definitely congested (like an international airport would be). In hindsight, I would have rented it from somewhere in the city or an easier pick-up location. We also screwed up the reservation by inputting a day earlier than we needed so we had to pay a huge amount for the only automatic car that...

Read moreI have been lucky enough to stay in some lovely 5 star resorts both in Portugal and globally and this place is AWFUL!. I had booked a room via Mr & Mrs Smith for 2 nights ( I had explained my childs age when booking) 10 months in advance and secured a decent rate . However when I checked the booking it was for a room that does not allow children! so I had to amend my room type to a room that was over 700 euros a night, rather than 350 euros. I there expected something exceptional or at least exceptional service. THIS IS THE WORST 5 star HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. Besides having zero atmosphere and lacking any kind of character ( think fancy centre parcs in a portuguese forest) its just beyond awful regarding service and facilities. Where to begin,.. So I was meant to have a bed in the room for my 4 year old, standard for most decent hotels, however when we arrived there was a small baby cot. We arrived at 3 pm and I asked for it to be change to a childs bed, they told me they didn't have any, despite the fact I had checked this before booking. I also asked for a kettle ( quite simple you might think) however I asked for that kettle 7 times and it finally arrived at almost 10 pm at night, I had wanted to make my son some warm milk before bed. When it did arrive with the privilege of a tea bag, which I had also requested, they tried to charge me 10 EUROS!!!!! for a tea bag!! this is outrageous when you are already paying 700 euros for the room!!!! FFS. I still don't have a bed for my child at this point, so after asking for the 5th time I finally get him a bed. The restaurant was equally awful, really slow poor service, I asked when we arrived at 7pm if I could order my childs food, I was told a specific person had to do that. At 8pm it still hadn't been ordered and he was climbing the minimalistic walls. They offered me a glass of champagne madam, only to be charged 25 euros for the priveege. The food was sparse and mediocre. I had the sea bass at 32 euros which was a third of the size of my sons portion of fish. Now its not all about the money in these places but when you're spending 700 euros a night you do at least expect decent food and good service, it was severely lacking in both. Then there was the issue of the pool, kids are not allowed in the pool, there is a kind of water feature type paddling pool right at the entrance of the reception, will full glass windows from the while interior, which is meant to be the kids pool. However there are no sun loungers for parents to sit/lie on and its in the middle of a seating area where people are drinking having coffee. Literally the most unrelaxing, unwelcoming and inconvenient place to have a kids pool ever. I guess thats the point. 6 hours after checking in and requesting a kettle I got one.I also had to ask for help at 5pm as my door did not lock meaning that anyone who fancied it could walk on it, we went out to the beach and they said they would fix it. Alas we came back and walked back into our room with no key card as so many other people could have done too! thankfully we were not robbed, The beach club of sublime is meant to be lovely, the beach is amazing . There are no sun loungers and no beach service. I tried to get a drink on the beach terrace at 5.40pm and was told I could sit around the side, where you can't see the beach or the sunset because they might need the very empty tables for evening service. Suffice to say I HATE THIS PLACE!!! and I never say that . I have stayed at some amazing resorts globally and in the UK and this is the worst!!! by far. and it is the most I have ever paid for a room for one night, 700 euros per night should surely guarantee a good level service.... it appears not at this...
