The complex of Foz da Ria itself is excellent. The apartments (both one and two bedroomed) are well laid out and of a very high standard. The grounds are pretty and well kept. The pool is good size and the infinity view is gorgeous. The setting is beautiful with views across to Alvor estuary. Paola the receptionist (mon - fri only til late pm ) speaks excellent english. ||||The Foz da Ria website is acurate in all that it says ||||BUT..... ||||it is VERY isolated. ||||A 45 minute walk down the road and then crossing the railway line will get you to the estuary . Even after an hour walking (by someone fit,) down the road towards the main road and you will still not have reached the nearest village of Odiaxere.||||If you hire a car you will be ok but if this is not in your plan, taxi fares are in excess of €12 to Lagos and €15 to Alvor EACH WAY , so take enough money to cover this!!! (as well as for your meals). The car journey to Lagos takes 15 minutes. During the week ,Paola will ring and book a taxi for you .( Paola uses a particular local man). but we discovered that generally you can not prebook taxi's and local taxis firms are not keen to come out to Foz da Ria to get you !! ||||There is NO local shop to get basics, so especially if you are arriving at a weekend, BEFORE arriving at the complex, make sure you get the basics from the supermarket in Lagos - water etc ,(but advisedly, your food shopping in for the WHOLE week-The only thing Paola sells in reception, is dishwasher tablets!!! ) as you will not have taxi numbers to get you back out again for provisions!!!! The freezer is useful for this!! ||||Having given you these tips , enjoy the peace and quiet, and the view. We are missing it already . oh ... and listen out for the cows...
Read moreI had a great experience staying at Foz da Ria.||From the very moment I made a reservation, communication went on very smoothly, and they were very mindful of my needs and were keen to make suggestions and help.||The whole resort and apartment were great, clean and comfortable. ||The sauna, jacuzzi and gym were not working, due to the COVID-19 situation, which seems perfectly reasonable and sensible at this time. It would be nice to know that in advance, though.||The view from the apartments is beautiful, with a great sunrise and sunset experience.||The balconies have tables and really nice chairs to sit or lie down and relax.||Kitchen was fully equipped, so you can use it to cook, should you wish to do so.||There's enough parking space for your car.||Foz da Ria is isolated, so keep in mind you need a car. Lagos is not too far, in case you need to shop, go for a walk or out for a meal. There's also Meia-Praia near by, for the beach experience.||This is the perfect place to relax, be away from the hustle of the city and just wind down.||I will most likely be coming back on another occasion and I definitely...
Read moreWe are a family of 4 with 2 girls aged 6 and 9. This is the second time we have been to Foz da Ria, as it is such a great place to go on a family holiday.||The apartment complex is lovely, the apartments are very well appointed with all you could need. The pool is great, with a separate small pool for littlies and a playground. The complex is completely fenced in with a secure gate, so it is very safe for the children to play happily and great for us to relax. There is weekly maid service, a very helpful receptionist, a gym, a spa and a tennis court. One of the best things about this complex is the beautiful view - across the estuary and out to sea.||It is true that the location is remote - however for us that is one of the plus points, as you are not surrounded by buildings or noise. Ideally you do need a car to get about - but with a car you are only 10 - 15 minutes away from everything - the towns of Lagos and Alvor, supermarkets, shops, restuarants, beach bars and the beach.||All in all a fantastic...
