We had a wonderful stay at PocinhoBay. Jose and Luisa, the owners, have arranged the place beautifully and turned it into a truly peaceful haven. We stayed in a villa which felt just like home. The only thing missing were a few toiletries which would have come handy. Breakfast was plentiful and good, and since we had to go to Mount Pico very early on our first day, Luisa brought inside the villa a picnic basket for our breakfast the night before, which was a nice attention. Jose and Luisa also booked our whale-watching tour with a great organization called Espaco Talassa (which I recommend), as well as made a restaurant reservation for us. They also provided good recommendations on other places to go to for lunch or dinner. There's a swimming pool, and access to a big natural seawater pool just in front of the hotel. Don't expect a sandy beach - it's rocky but you can borrow a thin mattress from the hotel and enjoy the sun on one of the surrounding platforms (one of which has fixed umbrellas to protect you from the sun), while watching kids jump in the water and lie directly on the main platform, like in a European 1960s movie. It's important to note this is NOT a standard luxury hotel, so don't expect the service you would get in a big resort. Nevertheless, the price tag is rather high, but for a good reason: it's a uniquely charming hotel in a...

Pocinhobay is one of the most special places that I’ve ever stayed. My husband and I stayed there for three nights during our honeymoon trip to the Azores. It was stunning, and so peaceful.
Luisa, the homeowner, was there to receive us upon check-in. She gave us a tour of the property, and was available throughout our stay for any questions or needs.
We stayed in their new one bedroom villa, which was absolutely stunning. We had a patio that wrapped around the entire place, a private pool, and a beautiful view of Pocinhobay and the ocean. The Villa was fully stocked with all amenities, contemporary finishes, organic soaps, and incredible art from Luisa’s travels.
We had a full, fresh, local breakfast in one of the common areas every morning, surrounded by photographs and art from all over the world.
The property is so peaceful to meander through. It is private and quiet. It feels like the perfect balance between a historic glimpse of Pico and a contemporary approach to design.
Definitely recommend renting a car, as the only other way to get around is really taxis. The resort is not really in walking distance to very much, but it is within 15-20 min driving distance to lots of restaurants and points of interest, as well as the airport.
Bottom line…stay here! We cannot wait to...
