A more than fantastic stay/experience was had here! From the drive up to the 5-star service given by the staff (all of them, no exception), our stay has been absolutely the best. The surprisingly modern meals we had at the restaurant gave this review the 5th star! It’s unreal how they manage to combine such a professional standard in such close quarters and in such a remote area of the world (akin to being on a small yacht). The chef (chefs?) here is a master at his/her game.

We enjoyed our stay at this quaint hotel. It is a bit rustic given the location so you have to come in with that expectation, but the service level was great and the meals at the restaurant/dining area were all excellent. Being in this location was a great break to explore a side of Portugal that isn’t that well visited. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to explore the area and to be one with nature.

We simply loved this hotel, partly for its location in the glorious Sierra de Estrella - a worthwhile drive to reach the peak of the road and experience the genuinely stunning views - and partly for its effortless, relaxed style - a mountain lodge with a gentle ski vibe - but above all for the superb quality of the staff.||This team have service down to a tee, with everything done superbly to make your stay special. This extended from the front desk through to the lovely restaurant staff, who delivered excellent genuinely local fare, cooked to perfection.||The public areas are relaxed and spacious, with extensive use made of the local burel fabric, a previously dying process of sheep's wool preparation that has been rescued (apparently) by the hotel owners - what an outstanding idea. A visit to the factory (free) is arranged daily and is fascinating. Side-note: the sister hotel down the road at Sao Lourenco has some absolutely exquisite examples of wall coverings using burel - worth a visit just to see that; if you do one of the hotel-organised guided walks they start at Sao Lourenco so you get to see this along with enjoying their free afternoon snack and coffee.||We had the large (72 sq.m) suite which was wonderfully comfortable and well-equipped, with a super comfortable large bed as well as a huge bath in it's own separate area.||The indoor pool is pleasant, and while we didn't use it there's a sizeable spa suite.||All in all a very special experience and we would love to return to savour more of this beautiful and...

Wow! There were so many good things to say about this place that is actually is hard to start!

I mean, the place is amazing, the purest air in Portugal, beautiful protected nature, breathtaking views. Penhas Douradas is a perfect place to rest and restore our strenghs. The Hotel is amazingly cozy, filled with Burel items that contributes for its coziness, but now think being next to a crackling fireplace while looking outside to awesome nature, or even snow during winter. You have fireplaces in multiples spots in the Hotel. The food is great, always fresh and very mouth watering! You can even try an amazing typical local snack, a serra da estrela cheese with prosciutto toast that can warm your soul even on the coldest of days! Amazing breakfast. The Spa is also very comforting and the massages we got were amazing, finishing in the inside heated pool. The Hotel offers free guided walks twice a day, and we took them all! Get ready for amazing views, learning some history and about mature by two amazing guides. Luis and João, awesome to have met you and thank you for the guided tours! Regarding Covid measures, we couldn't feel any more secure in every aspect! A special word goes to all the staff. Amazingly friendly, considerate and helpful on every single interaction, that will make you feel like you are at your family house. Will be...
