We stayed there in October and although being in a very lovely area of the country it is quite remote and tied looking.||The room we had 522 was lovely but old looking.||Please please hire a car at the airport and drive there as you will need it as there is nothing in the area with no buses and very hard to hire a car in the area.||Taxis are not cheap and they charge from the point of there last drop off so you start paying before it even arrives. Not good.||Beach is large but about 4k away in the town.||There are free bikes at the hotel and we had fun on them but they are old with no gears.||Pools are very very cold! ||A walk round the lake is very nice with a bike track round it and lots of wildlife.||The staff speak none or very little English so communication is a bit of an issue but they all smile.||Porto is great for a day out and we could have spent 2 days there and still not done everything.||If you want to be away from it all this is the place but if we never had the car we would have been stir crazy by day 3.||It seems to have so much potential but has just been left to age but it's still a nice place.||Resterants are few are far between so we spent all day out and went to a supermarket and had dinner in our room and sat on the balcony at night. Very nice especially when you share it with nice people you meet there. ||No English tv so take a tablet with you to watch it if your room is near one of the receptions for Wi-Fi.||Roads are all toll roads (3 or 4 lanes) and empty and the signs are clear but use your sat nav when you come off them.||We enjoyed our stay as it's a part of Portugal that not many people see and totally different from the Algave.||||Hope this helps?||||Bill, Emma...
Read moreIf I start with the negative feedback first. The rooms are dated but ok. We had a suite, which we believed would have a separate bed for our 11 year old . This turned out to be a sofa bed with a really thin mattress and was really uncomfortable. The hotel states that it has air conditioning, but on speaking to the chamber maid, she confirmed that there is no air conditioning anywhere in the hotel. There is no signage anywhere or anything to tell you where things are and what entertainment, if any, is on. On the positive side, the staff were really friendly. Our room led straight out to the grassed area next to the pool and sun lounges, and it also had a small patio area too. The grounds are well maintained, and the pools are cleaned daily. The breakfast is awesome. There is an evening meal, but when told the price, I thought this was a bit much, especially when there are a couple of great restaurants within a few minutes walk away. The location is awesome, but a car is necessary with some great places to visit within an hours drive away. Overall, we had a good time and would stay here again as a great place as a base to explore...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a genuine getaway from it all venue then this is the place for you! |A huge colonial style hotel/ complex in the middle of nowhere almost. English is a rare commodity here both in guest numbers and language. Be prepared to get skilled with sign language and pointing. Even staff, bar a lovely lady on reception do not speak the language.|The hotel rooms are large but basic and traditional- blankets not quilts and no kettle etc.. though there is a fridge. |The pool ( there are two ) is not heated so is initially cold until the sun heats it up. Very picturesque and has more than enough sun beds.|The breakfast buffet is ample with a substantial continental but again don’t expect your full English - European sausage/ scrambled egg and bacon are the hot options|Evening meal is well worth the €15 per head. Soup, salads, hot options and desserts to delight in.|If you can do hire a car or you may find the location very limiting. |The nearest beach ( pretend one at hotel ) is at Prai did Mira , a 10 minute drive away. |Would we visit again? Probably not but was fine for what we needed...
