We were received by D. Fabia in a very friendly and welcoming way, with a room upgrade! The house used to be a farm that has been beautifully refurbished to accommodate guests. It is a wonderful place, a lot of care and detail have been put in the beautiful decoration. The colourful and lush garden with the swimming pool is ideal to relax. In spite of the lack of water in the region, it is wonderfully maintained. The artificial grass looks perfect and is environmentally friendly as the water is scarce in this region of Portugal. You can start wonderful hikes along the river Douro from Aldeia Nova, ask Ms. Fabia for recommendations. The rooms are lovely and spacious with private baths and the home itself is very charming with interesting small spaces to hang out in. Would highly...

The overlook to the Douro is only a couple of kilometers and we walked over at sunset. Just beautiful. When we first arrived, we were too tired and hungry to drive the 10 minutes back into town to eat. The owner made us a very simple meat, potatoes and salad meal, with her own wine. Wow! The breakfast was also excellent, with local specialties. So...
