Wild Oasis — Hotel in Monchique

⚠️‼️CAUTION - MOLDY rooms & a CRIMINAL host ‼️⚠️

Please be aware before staying or doing a Workaway at Wild Oasis. There’s water damage upstairs & the rooms smell of mold especially the bathrooms. Even the curtain was full of moldy spots in Abundance room. I had allergic reactions to the mold and I was promised another room but the issue persisted.

The facilities are dysfunctional for long-term rentals / Digital Nomads / Co-working - the electricity and internet were out constantly and when I raised these issue with Kate the host and I was met with unimaginable hostility.

When I said I wouldn’t pay full price for the room due to the mold issue & lack of functional facilities, while I looked for a new place to stay, she snuck into my room with 2 of her friends, took my phone so I couldn’t call the police and put all my things in trash bags and forced me to leave. Her friend Sebastian (man in the picture) physically attacked me and threatened me with more violence if I wouldn’t leave. He even said “my parole officer won’t like this” and laughed with the others saying that the police won’t help me because I’m a foreigner in Portugal.

I left and went straight to the police station where they came to try turn it around & accuse me of not leaving the premises… although I just did 😅. I finally got my phone back after the officer forced them to give back my phone & deposit money.

Needless to say I filed a police report.

Their criminal behavior was disgusting and I seriously advice everyone TO KEEP AWAY FROM THIS PLACE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY🙏

Moreover the host Kate repeatedly takes advantage of workaways/ Woofers and asks them to not write down all the hours they work. She made repeated comments of the peaple staying at wild oasis, guests and workers having “mental health issues” and using that as a reason people kept leaving with no notice… after my experience with her and her friends it seems this criminal behavior is how she behaved towards others as...

Our staying was very very disappoint! I booked a room and sauna for surprise for a friend, we needed to relax. Well this turned out in a NON-relaxing weekend!!! There was all day long a filmset at the sauna place. after hours and hours they asked them to move, but they kept making lots of noises. So we didnt relax in the sauna, by the time it finally got a bit hot, the owner, Kate, came IN the sauna, talking with us, leaving the door open, to ask if the filmpeople can come in side to apologize.... Excelly we wanted to leave the place because it was awful. Kater offerd us some discount, but it was not worth at all. there were only 2 towels in the room (just for a shower, not extra one for sauna) 1bathrobe instead of two and ALL NIGHT LONG there was a strong Christmaslights on in front of all the rooms, so no change to sleep in the dark or watching the stars. The restaurant was closed and the breakfast was bad.2 pathetic tomato slices for on top of a cream cheese with white bread.It was a very unpleasant stay with bad energy. The only thing that was good were the girls who work there. Incredibly friendly. but the owner was a very distant person who does not know how to communicate. she sends all the information she needs to send you in portuguese. For a tourist spot with at least an English explanation. Definitely not recommended if you want to relax. I am sorry to. write a bad review, I think I...

Vamos a poner nuestra opinión más sincera respecto a nuestra experiencia. Lo que nos gustó: La amabilidad de las personas, no sabemos exactamente quienes eran trabajadores y quienes voluntarios pero son todos muy respetuosos y amables. Las vistas, el bosque y alrededores. Estuvimos dando un paseo explorando la zona y nos pareció que tenía mucho encanto. Hay varias zonas de descanso con hamacas y cojines al estilo chill out. Nos gusta que existan sitios Pet friendly en el que alojarte. No tuvimos ningún problema para quedarnos con nuestro peludo. De hecho fue el motivo por el que elegimos este alojamiento ya que cuando buscamos apenas teníamos opciones para poder alojarnos con nuestro perro. Te escriben por WhatsApp para ofrecerte unirte a clases de yoga, meditación, ofrecerte cena vegetariana por 12,50€. No hicimos ninguna actividad ya que estando de vacaciones con nuestro perro no queríamos dejarlo solo en ningún momento. Además que yo sí práctico yoga pero mi pareja no. Con lo cual preferimos no acudir a ninguna extra.

Lo que no nos gustó, y queremos hacer hincapié que esto es una crítica constructiva sin ningún ánimo de ofender y que esperamos que ayude a mejorar la estancia de otros huéspedes: La habitación estaba aparentemente limpia,pero había telarañas por las paredes y cortinas, además no es nada agradable volver después de estar todo el día fuera y encontartela con muchísimos insectos dentro ( mariposas, arañas, hormigas, etc) cada noche estuvimos "limpiando" y matando bichos para poder dormir con cierta tranquilidad. Nosotros sabemos que es en una zona rural, rodeada de naturaleza pero no estuvimos en un camping, ni en tiendas de campaña ( para atenerte a esto). Hemos estado en sitios con mucha más naturaleza en Sintra y Braga y las habitaciones las cuidaban para que no entren insectos, hay formas de evitar esto y haría la estancia más agradable a cualquiera. Por ejemplo, poniendo una mosquitera, como mínimo ya que por la noche dentro de la habitación hace calor, no hay aire ni ventilador y no puedes abrir las ventantas porque entran los insectos, además que si enciendes la luz entran más aún, lo cual te obliga a estar prácticamente a oscuras. Paganos por una habitación con desayuno incluido. Te preparan el desayuno ( café, pan, una loncha de queso, unos pocos trozos de plátano y manzana,Yogur con muesli, mantequilla y mermelada) todo te lo dejan en una cocina común y tienes que llevártelo tu mismo a la mesa de la terraza para comer. Hasta ahí perfecto, sin embargo nuestra sorpresa llega cuando te dicen que tienes que fregar los utensilios ( lo hicimos sin ninguna queja, por evitar confrontaciones) pero creo que es algo que deben especificar claramente cuando vas a alojarte ahí. "Desayuno incluido y debes fregar lo que utilices" . Entendemos el concepto de cooperación pero si estas pagando por una habitación con desayuno incluido, se entiende que pagas por todo el servicio y sino va a ser así, deben dejarlo muy claro. Por otro lado, sabemos que la comida es vegetariana. Nosotros llevamos una dieta en casi un 80% vegetariana, no comemos carne pero si pescado y existen mil opciones muy ricas de desayuno variado para que puedan ofrecer a los huéspedes. Nosotros sólo desayunamos dos días habiendo pagado 4 ya que no queríamos desayunar 4 días lo mismo, nos apetecía probar cosas distintas o típicas de la zona. En la descripción del alojamiento ponía que hay secador de pelo (no habia, tuvimos que pedirlo el tercer día, nos dieron uno bastante pequeño que apenas secaba) toallas (si te las dan pero en 4 noches no nos ofrecieron cambiarlas) no dijimos nada porque fuimos previsores y llevamos lo nuestro también. No hay artículos de aseo, gel de ducha, ni shampoo, solo jabón de manos. El agua no sale caliente, es templada...
