Our room and the facilities were beautiful; an oasis after a long hiking day. We were greeted by a welcome drink and friendly service. We had a delicious lunch of grilled tomato and cheese sandwich and fries. ||My only issue with this place came at dinner. Our package came with a paid dinner. I hadn’t realized we would only be able to choose from 3 entrees, so had looked at their website menu ahead of time, and had decided on a cod dish that seemed like it would be gentle on my stomach. We would be hiking 16 miles the next day, and didn’t want to eat anything too rich or heavy, as I have a touchy stomach. When it came time to order, I told the waiter I understood that I would need to pay to order off the set menu, and he immediately got very disgruntled, and said, these entrees were what were included. I said I understood, and would pay for my meal, and if I could see a menu. While looking at the menu, I did not see the cod, and asked about it. He then said, “we don’t have cod, we have never had cod, we would never have cod” in a disgusted, demeaning voice. I was so taken aback that I said I would just take the pork cheeks (off the menu we could order from). I can understand that you might not currently have cod on your menu, but there is absolutely no reason to ever belittle someone for asking a question, especially when it had been on their current website. A simple, “we currently are not serving cod. May I suggest this fish” would have sufficed. I felt so ashamed and embarrassed that I really just wanted to go back to my room without eating, but I did stay. I will say that the pork cheeks were very good, although the choice of both French fries and rice as sides with it are baffling. My husband’s vegetarian dish was also good (although actually vegan, and not what he would have chosen given his choice, as he is not a fan of sweet potatoes). So, all in all a disappointing dinner. Breakfast the next morning was diverse and quite good. ||Really loved the facilities. The dinner experience not so much. I’m not a particularly sensitive person, but this ended up being my worst experience in our 4 week trip in...

Where do I even start? This place was like an oasis at the end of a long day hiking. Originally a farm, which has been in the same family for 200 years, it’s now a luxurious retreat, with every comfort that you could possibly want. For the included welcome drink (I had a mojito), to the wonderful smelling shower gel and body lotion, the comfy bed with very crisp white sheets and huge soft white towels. The shower was hot with great pressure and the doors onto our terrace, offered a view out to the donkey, goats and sheep in the paddock. Half board included dinner, which was high class and delicious and the service was wonderful, even down to lighting a fire pit for us to sit around after dinner. The pool is heated and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was amazing, with a huge variety, they had the best gluten free bread rolls that I’ve ever had. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, it was...

One of the most relaxing places I have stayed at in Portugal: Herdade do Touril is for me the ideal place to stay at in this corner of Alentejo. The staff are almost family and extremely dedicated to the clients. The way the Herdade was modernised but kept its traditional spirit is a work of excellence. The amenities are all you need to rest: good sleep, good food, a pool, all in there. And the food…Tasca do Celso and the pool bar have a delicious selection of dishes that will make you never want to leave the property. We are now in love with this Herdade and will surely be back!

Absolutely one of the most amazing stays I’ve had on any vacation. From the minute you walk in, the staff are friendly, helpful and so accompanying. The grounds are immaculate and the rooms are very clean and perfect in size. The dinner at their restaurant was fresh, delicious and we actually went two nights in a row. The most beautiful quiet beach is a 5 minute bike ride away, to which they provide the bikes for you. Highly recommend a stay here when you’re in Portugal!

This place is AMAZING! The best accidental stop I’ve ever made. It’s truly a dream. Completely redone in 2018 and very well done. I wish I had known to extend my travels an extra 5 days to stay here. Very relaxing, beautiful scenery, incredible environment, all around perfection. I would recommend it to anyone and think it is 100% worth the extra effort to get here. If you skip this place on your way between Lisbon and Lagos, you’re missing out!
