Pensão Repouso do Peregrino — Hotel in Paredes de Coura

Here's my review from my booking website, "As we were pilgrims walking the camino there were very few accommodation choices on this stage of our walk to choose from but Pensão Repouso do Peregrino went well above my expectations. Our simple en-suited accommodation with small balcony and view was in an outside dwelling to the main building, it was clean, comfortable bed and quiet at night as all the other guests were on the Camino. There was a generous Pilgrim's breakfast in the morning, more than we imagined: 2 yoghurts, 2 boiled eggs, cereals, 4 bread rolls, slices of ham and cheese, tea/coffee, jam/butter. The Pensão also provides a free evening bus pick-up and bring back service to a local restaurant for the most delicious inexpensive meal and an atmospheric evening out. When we arrived the lady was really helpful and friendly. She very kindly offered to do our laundry for free and gave us a complimentary glass of Port. |Our room was fine but the bed was only a double so not big. There was no remote control for the air conditioning so it couldn’t be used. |They offered complimentary transport to a cafe for dinner which was good. |The WiFi only worked in the main part of the building. |Breakfast was minimal and not enough to begin a long hike. We stayed here as part of a walking holiday in Northern Portugal. All our other nights were in excellent 3 and 4 star places so this was a shock. Maybe the pilgrims who had previously stayed in hostels would appreciate the luxury of an ensuite shower room but the standard of this place to me was very poor. Bed sheets didn't fit, electrics were dangerous, we were woken at 7.30 and told we had to go for breakfast, then told we had to leave by 9. I would not recommend anyone staying here unless you are on a very tight budget and just need somewhere to...
