Moinho do Maneio is extraordinary. If you are the kind of person who loves to be able to not hear cars driving by, even far away... then this is for you. ||Although you have to drive approximately 800m on beaten track, what awaits you is a beautiful tiny vale just south of the heart of the serra da Malcata. ||From the moment you arrive, the owners, Anabela and Rui, will do everything to help, in a frank, honest manner, but they do so unobtrusively. Even the cats and dogs seem to wag their tails so as to greet you,||There are 4 bungalows, beautifully made up and all totally different. The beds are a little smaller than we are used to, but are comfortable and everything is impeccably clean.||What, perhaps, makes the Moinho the most appealing is the fact that it has an overall philosophy, a leitmotif which permeates the air; peace, serenity and well-being.||The breakfast is to die for, and, Rui and Anabela grow their own raspberries, so you'll have them a-plenty. Eating out on the porch under the endless sky, surrounded by trees, with a stream nearby, has to have been one of the essential pleasures that I will take with me.||Although the drought that portugal has felt during the last year made it impossible for us to swim in the stream, the owners made sure we had free access to the swimming pool at the local camp site, so we could take a dip on days when it reached 40ºC.||This was one place I would love to return to, and certainly, one which I knew I would love to write up about.||Keep up the...
Read moreVery friendly and helpful staff. Location is very peaceful and surrounded by nature. There is a swimming pool and a stream nearby. You can swim and use a canoe in the stream.
Houses/rooms are spacious, clean and well maintained. A/C worked quite well. The house/room, we stayed in, had a small fridge, and kitchen utensils. It is nice if you want to prepare something or if you prefer to eat there.
Breakfast has a decent variety.
Internet connection is only available near the main house and the breakfast room (good for online detox)
It would be great to have some insect nets on windows or doors, to allow to have them open without worrying about insects coming inside. This area can have a lot of insects, including mosquitoes.
It would also be great to have a daily maintenance, for example to refill any toilet paper or replace towels.
On a side note, not a complaint, we went during early summer and it was a bit of a struggle to stay outside in the evening because of the mosquitoes. It is understandable that we are surrounded by nature and near a stream, but it really made it difficult to enjoy. If you want to fully enjoy, you might need some repellent.
The location is great to relax but it can be tricky to find a good restaurant open especially on Mondays. You need to drive everywhere, since it is not within walking distance to any village...
Read moreIt is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of nature, offering a truly magical experience. The owners have poured their heart and soul into transforming this property from ruins into a beautiful retreat, and their passion is evident in every detail. The concept of the place is unique, blending rustic charm with natural beauty in a way that feels both authentic and serene. One of the highlights of the property is the river and the charming little waterfall, creating a peaceful atmosphere that enhances the sense of tranquility. We stayed in the Mill House, which was a wonderful experience. My daughter absolutely loved the cozy bed upstairs, and the fireplace added a warm, magical touch to our stay. Breakfast indeed was divine as reviews stated. I would be back just to taste that chocolate cake again. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a serene...
