Quinta da Dourada — Hotel in Portalegre

Just returned from a week at Quinta da Dourada and I literally felt home away from home. The place is gorgeous! We arrived late evening and the path was charmingly flanked with warm lighting, like a hug and one really feels welcomed! There's lots of easy parking, very handy and just across any of the cottages or main property. Once you step in the cottage, after being casually yet warmly welcomed by Nuno, it's like haven. We found the cottage so pleasantly warm, both atmosphere and ambiance. Traditional yet comfy, the cottages are extremely well equipped with all needed appliances in a perfectly small kitchenette. It has absolutely everything one may need, either for light or even more complex meal preparation. Pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glassware, tablecloth, microwave, mini oven and grill, tea and coffee facilities such as espresso coffee machine, kettle, filtered coffee maker, and complimentary items such as salt, olive oil, vinegar. This was all very handy, specially for us as dog owners. Unfortunately most restaurants are not pet friendly and we were able to spend quality time, relaxed with our beloved 2 year old Yorkshire Terrier. Now, this is something I really want to thank for. Quinta da Dourada is truly pet friendly, and this has definitely won my heart. I have never been able to leave my dog behind- it is literally a family extension and to find a place with the same mindset was very special to me. We were able to enjoy ourselves, in the utmost relaxing site. Not a car, airplane or sign of modern stress was ever heard and for me this is the definition of luxury. If you are looking for cheap glamour or tacky sophistication, go elsewhere. Quinta da Dourada is all about heritage and tradition, extremely well kept. The main property and cottages are very well designed, each with its own character, filled with books and DVDs, all you need to detox from the evermore digital world, don't worry! Free wifi passwordless is 24/7 available. The main property has a beautiful kitchen and all I could imagine was cooking a great meal with the pool at the back... Actually, sunset is gorgeous in this area. There's a short stoned wall , separating the pool area from the terrace, filled with bottles of all sorts and colours adding loads of charm and character; this place for sure is to die for during summertime. There's lots of sitting alfresco, just lovely to enjoy a glass of wine. Breakfast is included and placed in the refrigerator for next morning every other day, and bread is left at the door in the early hours of the day- a nice assortment of quince marmellata, berries and pumpkin jams, butter, sliced sponge cake, chèvre, cheese, ham, chourição (a tradicional chorizo sausage like), pear and orange juice, milk, rustic sliced bread, rolls and croissants; more than enough and all you need to start your day. Fruit is also placed in the cottage on arrival. All staff we met were kind and couldn't do enough, not being invasive or over the top. They were genuinely interested. A relative of ours passed away during our stay and we were very well looked after, highlight to Mrs Maria Cecília, the main housekeeper. She was lovely and Cookie (my dog) was very much fond of her. Cookie spent a great time and every morning "asked" us to open the door in order to meet and greet the cute Suffolk flock of sheep. The property is very relaxing and one can enjoy beautiful morning walks. Location is very good. A 5 to 10 minutes drive from any needed chemist, market or high street and close enough to any other historical sites. Nuno, the owner is a cool, laid back gentleman, down to earth and great host. I hope we get to spend more time on our next trip. I would love to learn about the vineyard vines and all country life. Personally, I did not feel the dirt track path was an issue. Instead, it's absolutely standard for this type of rural property anywhere in the world. I actually feel happy about it, for sure keeps curiosity at bay and noise far away! Thank you ever so much for having us and we genuinely look forward to...

Há tanto para dizer sobre a nossa estadia de apenas duas noites, mas infelizmente muito pouco que seja positivo... tudo começou no momento do check in... Éramos dois casais e duas crianças, e optámos por reservar a casa de São Bento e a casa de Santo António, cada uma, com um quarto, um sofá cama e uma cozinha. Assim que chegámos, foi nos feito um encarecido apelo pelo dono da propriedade, que devido a um casal de idosos não poder ser instalado na suite que haviam reservado, uma vez que estes tinham já poucas capacidades de mobilidade, estariam assim impossibilitados de aceder a esta suite, que tem um grande vão de escadas. Apesar do transtorno e vendo com os nossos próprios olhos qual era o casal, claramente não tivemos coragem de dizer que não. Sendo assim, eu e o meu marido ficámos na casa de São Bento, e o meu irmão mais a namorada na tal suite, que a meu ver não é nada agradável em termos de apresentação, está situada na casa principal, onde o dono habita na parte de baixo, tendo uma sala desarrumada, de aspecto desleixado e pouco limpo. A suite não possuía sequer uma chave. No dia seguinte qual não é o nosso espanto, quando vemos que o tal casal, havia sido transferido, para uma outra casa, e tomámos conhecimento, de que a casa de Santo António, nem era aquela que o casal estava a ocupar nesse dia em que chegámos, mas sim uma mesmo ao lado, e também ocupada por outras pessoas... obviamente que ficámos furiosos pelo abuso à nossa boa vontade, e exigimos a nossa casa no imediato, ou a restituição do valor por completo da suposta casa de Santo António, a que nos foi vedado o acesso. O dono mostrou-se exaltado, tentando dar justificações absurdas sem qualquer sentido, não se prontificando no imediato a essa restituição, nem a dar o devido acesso a esta casa, uma vez que outras novas pessoas iriam dar entrada nesse dia, foi assim que ameaçámos que chamaríamos a polícia e que faríamos uma queixa de burla pelo sucedido, pois tínhamos em nosso poder, o email com a confirmação detalhada da nossa reserva. Apenas assim, conseguimos que o valor nos fosse restituído. Quero aqui também salientar o facto, de que este anfitrião, demonstrou uma atitude machista e bastante rude, pois apenas se mostrou disponível para dar explicações do sucedido aos homens de ambos os casais, em local que ele chama de sua residência (parte de baixo das suites, e que ao mesmo tempo está sinalizado no local como sendo uma "recepção"), o que despoletou em mim, extremo desagrado, levando-me a exigir participar desta conversa e ouvir directamente da sua boca a tal explicação. Devido à minha insistência este insinuou que eu estava a invadir a casa dele, onde nem tinha sido convidada a entrar, revelando completo desrespeito pelo cliente que tem pleno direito a entrar na " recepção " da propriedade onde estava a pagar a sua estadia. Senti-me completamente lesada, desrespeitada, manipulada, enganada e burlada... tendo a minha estadia sido uma completa desilusão, devido a todos os nervos que esta pessoa me causou!! Em relação ao local, tenho a dizer que as fotos apresentadas online, são bastante enganadoras, o espaço está desleixado: _as habitações são antigas, a precisar de renovação, a torneira da casa de banho não dava mais que um fiozinho de agua, a água do duche era difícil de regular... A limpeza da casa não era a melhor, o cheiro dentro da habitação era bastante intenso, devido a ambientadores perfumados. A cozinha era acanhada, com as loiças bastante altas, o que pode dificultar pessoas que não não muito altas (eu precisava de me colocar em cima da cadeira para aceder aos copos e pratos.) _O espaço da piscina era agradável, os colchões das espreguiçadeiras, precisam de uma reforma, tendo aspecto pouco limpo. O pequeno-almoço era pobre, o pão que supostamente era regional (alentejano) não era fresco. No segundo dia nem sequer nos foi servido pequeno almoço!!! Pontos positivos?? Somente a calma e paz do espaço envolvente que foram completamente arruinados pela antipatia do anfitrião... Não recomendo nem tenciono alguma...

We know that Quinta's are often great spots to sleep, but this one is just Waaw. We arrived at night and had to drive quite a while through a spooky forrest to arrive in paradise. ||||There are a few houses and we found our room at night in this incredible environment; We couldn't wait to go on a discovery tour in the middle of the night. In the morning we were so sad we only slept here one night. That incredible swimming pool needed to get visitors, we found the little games in the garden (like table tennis), the fountains, ... We could stay here for a week without any doubt. ||||Our room was so nice. A first room with a couch, fridge, DVD's, ... And very good WiFi. Our bedroom was even better. Great huge bed, very nice decoration, it felt like home.||||Our breakfast was in the fridge, bread at the door and our table nicely outside. Breakfast is basic, but all we needed and wanted. ||||We also met the owner who was preparing for 'high profile visit'. We understand why.||||We are definitely coming back one day (if prices don't double...
