Hotel Apartamentos Baia Brava — Hotel in Santa Cruz

For the price, we weren’t expecting anything fancy. On the first night, we realized there was zero sound insulation. However, as the place seemed to quiet down at a reasonable hour, we could live with this. Plus, the next morning, we noticed a sign right on the main entrance door proclaiming that no noise was to be made between 11 pm and 9 am. A little later start to the quiet time than we would have liked, but we appreciated the policy. On our third day, we chose to hike up the highest peak in Madeira, which made for a long and physically exhausting day. When we got back to our room shortly after 8 pm, all we wanted was to shower and go straight to sleep. However, there seemed to be some kind of a party happening in the downstairs dining area, which I’ll mention is right outside of our room. It’s fine, it will be over by 11 pm, we kept saying to each other. No such luck. By a little after midnight I got dressed and went out to find a hotel employee. She was very apologetic, but said it would likely continue for another 30 minutes to an hour and made no attempt to help reconcile our situation. It’s just after 1 am now and part of the guests have left, but the party and noise outside our room continue on. Obviously I don’t place blame on the party members, but on the hotel for booking this ‘once a year’ event as the employee kept telling me, without warning their (paying) guests, or offering them any alternative to being kept awake all night.

EDIT: It lasted past 2 am. I also wanted to add that similar to what most other reviews include, there is no WiFi in the rooms, only common areas, the beds are very hard and uncomfortable, and there are no shower curtains. Overall, it’s an aging and not well maintained hotel. However, the staff have been very kind...

Did my research and wasn't expecting perfection. but OMG ..... this was obviously built to be 4 star and above but the maintenance has not been even close to being adequate. arrived and was shown to our room. initially looked clean and as we checked the apartment out we found the aircon was not working . I went to the reception and was told by the clerk that the aircon was broken through out the hotel and had been for months. on return to my room my wife had found several issues . The apartment was superficially clean and on closer inspection there were numerous faults. paint damaged broken bath panel damaged /missing crockery etc.. we complained to travel republic and they arranged to find a room with "working aircon " . this room was worse than the first room with large cracks in the wall and a smashed window. broken ( double glazed so posed no real problem just symptomatic of the poor maintenance of what obviously had been a 4 star hotel. the aircon did not work it had a fan that worked but did not affect the room temperature as the filter at the front end was blocked up completely. ||The staff were nice and helpful as far as they could within the constraints of the crumbling poorly maintained building.||location is out of the way and half way up a mountain. madeira is one big mountain and expect mountain driving with nearly all roads having very high double figure inclines. ||there is nothing near this hotel and the nearest store is 20 minute walk away. nice fresh bread though. ||if you want quiet this hotel has that in abundance and with a hire car easy reach of funchal etc..||Photo.s are...

Un argument non négligeable, le package offert par Thomas Cook comportait une voiture de location pour tout le séjour. ||Si vous voulez une vue imprenable sur l'Océan, les levers de soleil et les atterrissages et décollages des avions (sans les nuisances) c'est l'endroit qu'il vous faut.||L'hôtel est situé dans un endroit très calme proche de l'aéroport. Il comporte une piscine très propre (en arrivant nous pensions qu'elle était vide) d'eau douce non chauffée mais fin septembre, il était encore possible de s'y baigner.||Chaque chambre est équipée d'une belle terrasse avec vue sur l'océan et d'une kitchenette avec frigo, taque, hotte. Il ne faut pas s'attendre à pouvoir cuisine r un repas 4 étoiles avec le matériel mis à disposition mais on ne va quand même pas en vacances pour ça non plus .De toute façon, il n'y a ni sel, ni poivre, ni huile, ni vinaigre, ni produit de vaisselle. Ce qui semble aussi évident. Je ne sais pas si vous utiliseriez les pots entamés laissés par le visiteur précédent. Ah oui, le mobilier est très abîmé.||Au niveau salle de bain (assez spacieuse), il y a un bain à bulles ... qui dans beaucoup de chambres ne fonctionne plus. Le personnel feint son étonnement mais je pense qu'ils doivent en avoir marre que tout le monde leur fasse la remarque et que la Direction ne procède pas aux réparations d'usage..Il y a également une barre de douche mais aucun rideau et cela apparemment dans aucune chambre. Bonjour les inondations.||Quand nous sommes arrivés il n'y avait pas de télécommande pour la climatisation et nous avons du réclamer.||Comme nous avons réclamé pour le bain à bulles, on nous a changé de chambre et nous avons eu droit à une suite. En fait il s'agit d'un grand appartement de 140 m² dont la vocation ne semble pas être une chambre d'hôtel, trois terrasses rikiki de 2m², une première pièce de 80 m² avec une grande cuisine équipée (four, taque, hotte, micro ondes, lave vaisselle, frigo, congélateur), tout cela sur 20 m² mais très peu de casseroles, couverts, assiettes et verres. Et pour meubler le reste un canapé méridienne, une table et 4 chaises. Une TV avec un grand écran de marque Samsung et uen télécommande de marque Sony (ce qui fait qu'elle ne sert à rien). Il y a aussi un décodeur satellite orienté vers le bas, ce qui fait que la télécommande depuis le canapé est très incertaine. De toute façon, il y a à peu près 100 chaînes dont 80 en allemand parmi lesquelles une soixantaine sont des chaînes pour adultes avertis.. A l'entrée il y a une salle de douche avec WC et lavabo, enfin un tub de douche, une barre et aucun rideau. Comme le tub est posé sur le carrelage, si vous prenez une douche, c'est l'inondation.assurée. Bref, c'est surtout un WC séparé. Ensuite il y a la chambre de 30 m² avec un lit double et une table de nuit. Enfin dans la dernière pièce de 30 m², il y a un dressing avec des armoires fort peu pratique et un porte manteau sur roulette bon marché qui n'a d'ailleurs pas tenu tout le séjour. De l'autre côté la salle de bain qui n'est pas mal mais qui n'est éclairée que par une réglette comportant normalement 3 ampoules économiques mais qui n'en comportait plsu que 2. Comme elles avaient déjà bien vécu, il ne faisait pas très clair. La salle de douche comportant le même luminaire, nous avons pu récupérer une 3ème ampoule plus vaillante afin d'y voir quelque chose. Mais le système Hydrojet de la baignoire fonctionnait. Il y a aussi une superbe douche à l'italienne avec une magnifique colonne de douche avec grande pomme carrée, jets dirigeables et douchette. Et pour mon plus grand plaisir : un rideau! Le seul de tout l'hôtel.||Au niveau Service, les draps de toilette sont changés tous les jours et le lit refait mais pas de ménage. Il manque aussi une poubelle dans la cuisine.||Le petit déjeuner est correct et le personnel très gentil. Si vous souhaitez juste un pied à terre pour dormir avec une vue magnifique, cet endroit est pour vous. Si vous cherchez un hôtel de vacances, faites un autre choix.||Le WIFI est médiocre et disponible uniquement dans les parties communes et pas encore tous les jours.||Il y a un parking mais pas suffisant par rapport au nombre de chambres puisqu'il faut une voiture...
