Jardim do Triangulo — Hotel in Velas

This is the place to stay. It's located near Urzelina, in Terreiros, about a 20 minute drive to Velas. The accommodations are charming bungalows, not luxurious, but with everything you need, including table and chairs, wonderful porch with chairs to watch the view of Pico, big bathroom with a nice shower. Plenty of windows provide light. Chris, the owner, knows everything about the island. We were there to walk, and he outlined a plan for us each day that took us all over the island and provided beautiful views and walks that ranged from easy to challenging, but always interesting. He also had great dinner suggestions. The breakfasts were fantastic and unpredictable, something new each day. There was always fruit, homemade yogurt, cheese, ham, tomato, cucumber, bread of different kinds, and juice. But one day a boiled egg, another day a banana smoothie, another day wonderful scrambled eggs from the neighbor's hens. A bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived. Wifi is available only in the breakfast room, so far as we could see. Pluses and minuses to this, of course, depending on how attached you are to it. Nice small "houses" with 2 double rooms in a beautiful garden with great view to the ocean and Pico, very good breakfast and very friendly and helpful owner and a bottle of wine for welcome! Gratis WLAN in the breakfast room and outside at the "palm hot spot".||We would come back at once and can only recommend it! ||||Some comments to the former reviews: ||- You can get as much breakfast as you want, you only have to ask if a plate or pot is empty. That's reasonable if you don't want to throw away good food. And it's a really good, handmade breakfast.||- The double room was small, indeed, but with a normal cupboard, 2 chairs and table and your own nice terrace also with chairs and table. ||- In lots of countries it's usual not to throw the paper into the toilet, particulary with soakaways.||- The cushions and matrasses were completely o.k. for us, although we both use special cushions at home, but that's very personal depending. ||- You sleep in a garden, away from the road and next village. It was totally calm when we were there...

This accommodation was organised by the tour company we went through. A great choice. The owners were lovely chilled people with a good sense of humour.||The rooms are small fairly basic chalets in the gardens behind the house. A bottle of wine was in the room as a welcoming gift. There are deck chairs around the garden which slopes gently toward the south. The combination of wine, a clear evening, a warm breeze and a fantastic view across to Pico was a great end to a day of strenuous walking. Just looking at the view and watching the bats was brilliant.||Breakfasts were good and more than sufficient. ||The walk to the Cais da Urzelina is about 20 minutes along a quiet coastal road.||Wifi was available at the top...
