We arrived the night of November 6,2024, and were warmly welcomed by the front desk clerk (Liliana?). She was very friendly and actually helped us with many of our questions. Super informative about our point of interests and we trusted her recommendations. Each one she gave us on the map was exactly as she mentioned, and we're so glad we did them all. The rooms are a little dated, BUT that doesn't change our experience here. I found it clean and comfortable. Bed is a little harder than back home, but I'm also in a different country. One must be open to the differences when traveling is what everyone should have in mind.. there are extra pillows in our closets, there's english channels on the teli, bidet in washroom, toiletries you may need, what more can one ask of a nights rest? Breakfast was great. Lots of good varieties here, staff are constantly cleaning the area and stocking up. Their breads are really good and homemade cakes, omelets, boiled eggs, pancakes, yogurts, cereal, bacon, herbal teas, and coffees. I mean, for a hotel to run this well on an island like this is incredible! You can not expect beyond your surroundings. Please keep that in mind. Free wifi, free breakfast, there's outdoor pool, indoor gym.. and if you're lucky, you'll get to meet the beautiful parrot that lives on the grounds. The view here is peaceful ... On behalf of my Canadian crew, THANK YOU for making our stay comfortable!

I doubted between 1 or 2 stars but the views are great, the surroundings quiet and the rooms ample. However, the hotel is absolutely down-run. Carpets are old and dirty, all installations are more than 20 years old and have hardly been maintained. The bar was poor, the kitchen told us that there was a problem with an oven and they could not offer any meals like pizza, baguettes, etc. Desastrous the way they treat the poor parrot, dirty cage, old water absolutely lonely. The entrance is scandalous, the gym was closed (and poor) and neither the beds nor the sofas were comfortable. The toilets at the entrance do not respect the legal regulations, in case of emergency, doors have to be designed to be opened from outside. The table in our apartment was not stable, but freely rocked from side to side. Vila da Porto is at a 25' walking distance. Prices are for a 5*, in fact all services and installations are 2*. Ah - cockroaches on the ground floor and dead flies on the mouse pad at the bar. The waitress moved the mouse without problems around the dead fly - this was our last visit to the bar. Santa Maria is great, but thankfully in the future there are other options to the Colombo.

The hotel is located around 7 minutes drive from Vila do Porto. There are a lot of car park places so if you're going to rent a car, what is recommended on order to explore the island, you will have no problems in parking next to the hotel entrance. The rooms remember their old times ;) but they're convenient enough to enjoy your stay. Still, if you're an adventurer, most of the time you'll spend outside. There is a partnering gym next to the reception but it's extra paid. Not a big variety at breakfast. I stayed 2 nights and both mornings there was identical food selection. As I'm vegetarian the choice was even smaller, however I never left hungry :) The hotel in general could undergo a little refreshment. Staff is amazing, they really put an effort to make your stay enjoyable. Sara at the reception helped me a lot in planning my hikes and shared her favourite spots :) Thank you!

Stayed for one night whilst visiting Santa Maria. The hotel is located a little outside of Villa do Porto with plenty of parking at the hotel, easy to access if you have your own transport, but a long walk uphill otherwise; I’d advise renting transport to get the best out of a visit to Santa Maria anyway. The hotel building from the outside looks more like a college than a hotel (with no sign over the entrance) but once inside check-in was quick and efficient.||Although I visited at the end of the season there an event on the island so only apartments were available; this consisted of a large bedroom, bathroom and a sitting room with small kitchen area; clean and comfortable with good views of the countryside from the large windows. The bed was comfortable and the WI-FI and shower both worked well.||No restaurant, but the bar area served a selection of tasty food (pizza, pasta, burgers etc), as well as both Azorean and Portuguese beers. Pleasant terrace area with a pool outside, Gym onsite (pay separately to use).||If you are willing to accept a few quirks (understandable due to the remoteness of Santa Maria) this hotel offers a good base to explore the island at reasonable price, if you’re expecting a four-star luxury resort hotel you’re probably on the...

We accidentally booked 3 nights instead of 2 but realized our mistake within 30 minutes of booking and contacted the hotel immediately. They however would do nothing for us. As other previous reviews, they stated they can do nothing as the booking is through a 3rd party yet the 3rd party site where I booked from clearly states before booking that only the hotel can make changes and that changes are up to them. It is the only booking I made through that 3rd party that had firm rules like that. Changes can be made to how they treat customers and how they have their bookings managed, they just choose not to make them and instead take money from customers rather than improving customer service. This hotel seems to be falling apart as is the customer service on multiple levels. Even the breakfast service lady was incredibly mean. Never paid so much to be treated so badly. Do not stay here. Definitely NOT a 4 or 5 star hotel.

Great to see your response Hotel Colombo and glad you are willing to compensate. In that case please send me an e-transfer for the cost of my 3rd night stay and I will remove my post.

In case anyone is wondering, of course they never compensated. Don’t...
