Couto Rural — Hotel in Vila Nova de Gaia

The. Nicest. Place. I've. Ever. Stayed. At. Period. Full stop. And I'm talking about years and years of hotel experiences. Never have I ever had as good a one as this place. This is my third Camino walk and I've experienced a lot of hotels some good some not so good. But this place is extremely special. Lourdes who runs the hotel is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. After picking me up about a kilometer from the hotel she actually waited for me while I went shopping at a nearby grocery store. Can you believe that? Her hotel offers every comfort imaginable. It's like they thought of everything down to having the hair dryer in exactly the place that you want to have it. The room they gave me was like a mini suite with a full kitchen etc., all for me. And breakfast the next morning was to die for. Again the greatest place I've ever stayed at without question and I would highly recommend it to anyone. And I certainly hope they keep this...

Why oh why isn't there the occasional way to give something SIX stars?!! This place was fantastic! Now, it's off the beaten path - just about the only semi-negative, but they more than made up for it. First of all, they were willing to pick me up or drop me off - which I took advantage of twice, and they were incredibly gracious about it. They were amazingly nice people, and did a superb job of hosting me during my Camino pilgrimage in Oct 2022. The lodging itself is spacious, clean, really cute, private, and just...darn comfortable! The practically made to order breakfast was literally one of the best on my Camino. The host and hostess went out of their way to be kind and considerate, and they had a young lady that works there that ended up giving me a ride to the "start off" point the next morning. After 3 wet days on the Camino we found this gem in Grijó.||The accomodation is beautifully presented, the food is delicious and plentiful (the soup was amazing!), the port on arrival was warming. The hosts make this place and they were welcoming, and helpful.we felt spoilt staying here which was wonderful||For a place to stay near Porto (and cheaper than Porto) I would definitely recommend it.||5 Star...
