Pensiunea Colț din Rai — Hotel in Șugag

Unfortunately, one of the WORST experience I had with a hotel. You cannot physically get there due to road condition and they slit take your money (cancellation fee is full room price). Terrible experience!!

--------long version-------- Booked through booking. Went on Transalpina (DN67C) to Oasa dam (wonderful road). Got on the exit for the county road 704 and the trouble started.

The road there (13km) is TERRIBLE !! (if you can call it a road). There is a road on the map, but in reality is just a very, very rough logging road. Parts of it are closed to public access due to the dangerous road conditions. It is so bad that only big logging trucks or tractors (or a full blown 4x4, not a family SUV) can traverse it. As you advance it gets from bad to impractical to outright dangerous.

I tried to go there but after doing ~5 miles (done in 1 hour and almost wrecking my car in the process), I tried to call the hotel for help but there was no signal coverage.

I was sure the gps messed up and I was in the wrong place, there could not be a hotel on such a terrible "road". So, I went back until I could get a signal (back to Oasa dam) and called them (another hour of excruciating road conditions).

They confirmed the location was correct and pretended that the road was not that bad. I kindly asked them to come and get me. They refused. I asked them to wave the cancellation fee, pleading with them that I CAN NOT GET THERE !! They refused. I tried to resolve the dispute through booking but they where no help unfortunately.

Finally, I went to another hotel as a walk in guest, back on the main DN67C road.

The next morning Colt de Rai had taken the full cost of the room from my account and refused to wave the cancellation fee despite my pleading.

So in conclusion, this was a BAD experience !! If I can save at least one of you from the terrible owners and the excruciating dangerous...

The staff are friendly and customer oriented, often going that extra mile. The food is varied and they have a good cook. Without these people this would be a 2 star review.

For 5 stars however the place needs some serious overhaul. The room doors are a joke, super thin plastic and with holes in them. Same goes for the walls between the rooms, you can hear every whisper from the room next to you. Because of the inexistent sound proofing, it's difficult to get some rest.

The ski room could do with a few cheap shelves to make it more useful.

Otherwise the road is as bad as the route leading to Poarta Raiului from the Oașa dam, do take the 20km/h road...

Great location, in the middle of the mountains. The view to Sureanu peak and the little river sounds are amazing. Excellent and friendly staff. Paul & Dan are very good at their jobs. Apartment was very big. The view is breathtaking. Good food but the menu is not very diversified. In this area ORANGE (mobile cell phones) DON'T WORKING any more, use other the other cell phones companies. I will definitely...
