Cazare Transfăgărășan - Pensiunea Iuliana — Hotel in Arefu

Just an overall really bad and disappointing experience. Well-deserved one star rating here.

First, the price on the website was 60 RON/night while the price they actually asked for was 100 RON/night. When we arrived at the location there was another price at the entrance, 80 RON/night. We didn’t even get a receipt or invoice for our payment.

That wasn’t the problem, though. I’m writing this review because (1) when we got the room the key didn’t lock the door from inside, only from the outside (2) and the door didn’t even close properly. (3) The walls are so thin that you can clearly hear what happens on the hallway and in the adjacent rooms. (4) There was no warm water whatsoever. (5) Both the shower and toilet were leaking water on the bathroom floor and (6) there was a disgusting smell coming out of the bathroom as well. Also, (7) some lights weren’t working and, last but not least, (8) everything feels cheap inside the room.

I DO NOT recommend this place for...

Worst stay of my life! The key only worked from the outside for some reason, which was resolved fairly quickly. Everything felt gross, old and unclean. The walls had dirt marks everywhere you looked. There was no hot water and had to shower with freezing cold water, the soap bottle was disgusting, the toilet was running the whole time and the sewage smell was horrible. On the other rooms we had there was NO running water! Absolutely unacceptable. The walls are paper thin and couldn’t sleep the whole night as one can hear absolutely everything from up, down, left and right. The room is shaking when you walk around. The building looks decent from the outside but absolutely disgusting and not taken care of at all on the inside, had to use my phone’s flashlight to get to the last floor as there was no working lights almost anywhere on the floors. There was a sign outside which stated the cost of 80RON per room, however we have paid 100RON/room. I wouldn’t recommend this...

The room smelt like a combination of old beer and sewage. The room was tiny and cold and gross with uncomfortable beds. The tv didnt work in the room. Restaurant was closed. Barking dogs all night that were chained up. The handrails were not secured to anything. There was NO heat and when we mentioned this to the large, unplesant peasant lady she said "too bad", not a great response, considering we were travelling with an infant and small child. Oh yeah.. there was a bunch of drunks outside at the little store all evening. Not a suitable place for any decent human being to stay. Considering the amount of lodging available in the area I am not sure how they can get away with this. We have been across the country a couple times now and this was by far the worst (and most expensive) place we stayed. Only got 1 star so i could write the review id give it...
