Vraja Muntelui — Hotel in Arieșeni

I booked through booking.com to stay for a weekend with my friend. When we got there we were welcomed by a lovely friendly lady. Check-in was easy, the room was very beautiful and rustic.

We had breakfast included in the booking, enough food for two people and very good, everything was homemade from the bread to the jam and butter. All the food we ordered had big portions, therefore we shared a few dishes. Everything we had was really tasty, the soup is amazing and papanași are great. However, I would stay away from pasta as it didn’t taste very good. My friend ordered “Piept de pui în sos de hribi”, which although tasty, the mushrooms weren’t cleaned properly (she found leaves and a small stone). We have let the lady at the bar know and they were very apologetic and have shared our experience with the kitchen.

The location was very beautiful, quiet and relaxing. I have to point out that there wasn’t much to do around. There are benches and a little playground for kids, however for adults there no swings or anything.

Excellent traditional local drinks and food. Especially the pear brandy, plum brandy, called locally tuica(tsujka) wild blueberries liquor, wild cranberries liquor made by the owners themselves with fruits picked from the area. In terms of food the veal roast, local mushrooms stew, pork neck, the local traditional virsli(virshli) sausages are absolutely divine. Breakfast comes as a charcuterie board filled with several kind of foods and cheeses like fried eggs, sausages, ham, virsli, white ham, unique Romanian telemea cheese and accompanied by traditional Romanian tuica(tzujka) and, of course, coffee. As desert one should not miss the Romanian popular papanasi(papanashi), which are a treat. ||The rooms have a rustic touch and they are very cozy. The shower cabins are a bit of a smaller size but usable. ||All in all, great food and drinks, great service in an excellent location with an easy accessible parking lot, many of the hotels around the area have cramped access and parking lots.||Nearby activities||Hiking trails, Scarisoara glacier cave, Varciorog waterfall accessible with a horse carriage trip, sky...

The “hotel” is nice from a distance. As you get in , you’re not greeted at all, you don’t even know where the reception is and then you're told the room is not ready although now is after the checkin time advertised. When you finally get in, you’ll find a small room, semi clean , with a moldy bathroom and terrible noise from the downstairs restaurant.|| The restaurant experience would deserve a separate review altogether. In a few words, terrible, unfriendly service, not accomodating, the food so and so, but the worst part is that you can’t get 90 percent of it from the menu cause, wait! , you’re actually never told why, they just don’t have it, no appologies, nothing, but the exact opposite: the waitress is now annoyed with you because you can’t make up your mind.|| And the most upsetting part of all this is that you never get a “please”, “thank you” “sorry” or just a...
