The hotel is located in a nice area with forests around 20 minutes from Baia Mare. The reception gentleman was kind and efficient. The room is very large and very nicely decorated, looking new and modern. The TV set was great, embedded in a black display and with Netflix. We had no balcony but a view to the mountains. The spa is very nice, even if small, with a pool with some water tricks, a hot sauna and a wet sauna plus a terrace to cool. When it was not too crowded, it was very pleasant. The restaurant is specialised in trout and portions are quite large, pleasant terrace. The breakfast is very rich and interior restaurant design is top (except hunting trophies like black goats and many many deer antlers, some people hate hunting as a sport and such meager displays). The price for the type of hotel, breakfast and spa access included is good (well, with some improvements as shown below). As things that did not work well, I would start with the fact that we got a room with open bathroom and no curtain at the shower, so no privacy. Also when someone wakes up and turns on lights in bathroom, everyone is disturbed by this. The restaurant is quite expensive (a medium platter with few pieces of fried trout, 3 bumps of smoked trout cream and trout 'testicles' with sauce is 50, a chicken schnitzel 42!) and for trout they make you take 2 small ones or 1 big one at quite high prices (15 or 23 ron per 100 g, paying separate for side dish!). We waited some time for food to come, despite being told that it will not last long. The place is big, maybe 30 rooms, so some higher volume tourism, while the spa is small, pool for maybe 10 people at most, wet sauna for maybe 4 and same for dry sauna. People entered spa to look around with exterior shoes, kids left sauna door open, teenagers were jumping in the pool - they must check and control this better, it was not pleasant. The water at shower in spa was not warm. Anyway, there was no mandatory shower mandated through instructions written or verbal by staff, so people came sweaty off the bus directly into the pool after check in, disgusting. Mask should be mandatory in breakfast room at least as it's open buffet, some signs and reminding are required. Labels for products would help, we thought that some sort of fish roe mayonnaise is actually Greek yogurt as it looked exactly the same. Could be better, 2 stars lost for lack of discipline (spa area and overall pandemic rules not applied), for type of room with open bathroom for a family and for restaurant prices without...
Read morePositive: -Location, in a valley close to the river and surrounded by forest; -Modern decorated room and excellent beds; -Quiet, no noises from outside, but this was mayb because we had a room facing the woods; -Diversified breakfast
Negative: -The smart switch electrical contorl system is incomplete or poorly wired. You cannot turn off all the lights without cutting the power to the sockets, so you cannot charge any gadgets overnight. If you want to turn on the light in the toilet then all lights must come on and so you wake up the others. The card slot is not working properly, you have to jiggle the card, wait for a while and say your prayers, then it works; -The staff at the breakfast hall can use some educating when it comes to behaviour towards the customers, insufficient tongs for serving( you have to use the same one for veggies, cheese and whatever is in the close vicinity; -There is no dedicated parking for hotel guests and if you come on a weekend you might not catch a spot as the restaurant customers have taken them all; -When we checked in they gave us tickets for the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta, nice gesture except when we arrived there the lady at the ticket counter had a tantrum and implied that we have somehow forged the tickets or obtain them somehow illegaly. Not a nice experience at all -Altough someone must have though that having an "open" bathroom is an innovative idea, it's not as there in no privacy whatsoever. The shower cabin has a glass door which also faces the room entrance door, the sink is basically part of the room; -The food at the restaurant was good, not great, definetly not matching the high prices.
Overall the hotel is relatively OK-ish, definetly not a 4 star as the owner wants it. There is potential for 4 stars, but there is a lot more to be done to reach there as one expects different kind of service and plenty more amenities when reserving a 4 star. Maybe it can be classified as an...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting this charming trout restaurant and I was absolutely delighted with my experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere that made me feel right at home.
The restaurant boasts a cozy, rustic decor that perfectly complements the culinary delights it serves. But let's talk about the real star of the show here - the trout. It was evident that the chef takes great pride in the dishes crafted, as the trout was cooked to perfection. With a crispy skin, delicate flakiness, and a flavor that was both rich and nuanced, it was undoubtedly some of the best trout I have ever had.
What's more, the trout was accompanied by a wonderful selection of sides that were equally impressive. Each dish was beautifully presented and made with the freshest ingredients, showcasing a level of care and passion for food that is all too rare.
The service was exceptional, with knowledgeable and attentive staff who went out of their way to ensure our dining experience was unforgettable. Their suggestions were spot on, and their attentiveness added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal.
To top it all off, the restaurant's commitment to sourcing sustainably caught trout is commendable. It's refreshing to see such dedication to sustainability and responsible sourcing practices.
In summary, this trout restaurant is a hidden gem that offers an extraordinary dining experience. The exceptional food, cozy ambiance, and stellar service make it a must-visit for any food lover. I cannot recommend it highly enough and eagerly anticipate...
