Casa Matei — Hotel in Berca

This is related to an event held in July last year 2022 and for some reason the review was not posted so I am reposting it, hope it's still useful. Attending a class reunion is a great way to reunite with old friends, recall old memories and create new ones and Casa Matei was the perfect setting for our 35th high school class reunion party last weekend. It was a fine event carefully planned along with Loredana the Manager and her welcoming team. Many thanks to their staff and good service that allowed us to get together for a night of exquisite food, fun and entertainment. We were a group of about 20 people, prebooked 10 double rooms 2 months in advance and discussed the menu 2 weeks before the event. Rooms were clean, spacious and windows fitted with mosquito nets, mosquito repellent devices to plug for extra protection. Food was freshly prepared, locally sourced ingredients, traditional recipes as well as dishes with an international tweak, equally appreciated by everyone. The home made celebration cake with plenty of walnuts and double cream sourced from local farmers was a real hit, fully enjoyed. Pricewise it might be a bit pricey for a place situated 10 km outside Buzău but if you are looking for a treat, in a special spot of greenery near Buzău River, with great surrounding views, that's added into the price tag. We went to Casa Matei in search of some quality time together with family.||||We arrived there quite well, the road signs lead us directly to it and we discovered an oasis on the banks of Buzau River.||The staff was very kind, the meadow was charming and the meal excellent. As for the prices they are medium to high but worth it nevertheless. The restaurant had a good chef and the food was very good. We even trust it for our kid who enjoyed a well done chicken steak||||If you intend to try something try the traditional food, sausages out of mutton very tasty and very spicy.||||The desert (pancakes) exceeded our expectation with a fine mix of raisins, nut and honey together with a mix of whip-cream and ice cream.||||The pool on the facility is for house guest only and we hope we will review that at another time. The place is kid friendly and the childred have swings and outdoor space to roam in...

I booked last minute by email.||Turned up and received a 'frosty' welcome initially - although this may be because of the 'Corona Virus' - people are a bit nervous in Romania.||After I explained myself the lady was lovely - made a huge effort to understand my terrible Romanian and spoke in English where she could.||A nice spot on the river. ||Not a campsite - just a car park. ||Was offered electrical hook-up in the form of an extension lead from the hotel (no camper/campsite adaptors).||I had a lovely evening meal in the hotel (their home made breadsticks are lovely!) - lost of local recipes on offer.||slept in my camper - no noise in the night. A lovely stay.||Toilet inside hotel bar. No shower available for campers. ||Paid 20...
