This was the only disappointment in terms both of quality of accommodation and hospitality during our 12 nights in Transylvania. We decided to move elsewhere rather than stay a second night. What can be inferred from the website images - but perhaps should be spelled out in the verbal description - is that there is no sitting-area except two rather uncomfortable wooden chairs in the entrance hall. Not exactly 'cosy'. There is nowhere else one can sit comfortably. The kitchen is very small and the cooker was not clean, so we abandoned any idea of cooking. The bathrooms are hardly inviting and one was rather malodorous. There are no less than 4 bedrooms: we, a couple, took the whole house, and it still felt cramped. Sharing is quite hard to imagine but would no doubt be pretty cheap. The house was chilly when we arrived and it took ages to warm up. The breakfast was 'so so'.|To cap everything, there was no water at all in the morning. We telephoned the owner who came round and banged around in the basement for a few minutes and the water came on. No apology or explanation! After breakfast, we were told that the water had been off in the whole village. Maybe it was. But why the banging around then? And why not phone us out of courtesy and explain that? Bizarre!||On the 'up side', the location is incomparable and, apart from the cooker, the place is clean and the beds are comfortable. You can park right outside.|In sunny weather one could enjoy the outside space, so one might have a better overall experience...
Read moreWe stayed here two nights and found Pensiunea Oppidum to be a wonderful, relaxing guesthouse. It couldn't have a better location, right next to the Citadel wall. You walk out the front door and you pretty much have the best view of Biertan's historic fortified Saxon church. ||Angela, the host, couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. She doesn't speak much English- she's fluent in both German and Romanian, but we never found that to be a problem. I speak a tiny bit of German and even less Romanian, and so it was actually fun trying to communicate. ||The rooms are very comfortable, the shared baths are clean and the feel of the house is quite relaxing. The included breakfast is wonderful, with a plentiful selection of bread, jam, fresh butter and cheese, tomatoes, peppers, salami and omelette. ||We loved staying here, the price was right in line without of the other guesthouses in Biertan, and the overall experience was very satisfying. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone...
Read moreI visited Oppidum and Biertan for 2 nights, in November 2017, with my boyfriend. The guest house is lovely, reconverted old country house with all modern amenities (wifi included), just outside Biertan church fortified walls (30 sec to the church, same half minute to main square). They offer meals also, which were lovely! Eating at Biertan (nearby actually, in a nice restaurant-like setting) was one of the best perks of the trip! Biertan is beautiful, surrounded by low-ish hills which are easy to climb and from where the church and all the town can be seen in one image. It took us aprox. 4 h to walk around all the village, up on the hills - a mild beautiful hike. At Oppidum, all was nice - the bed was comfy, the sheets were just right, the room was warm and sunny and all is very very quiet. It's a trip to another era and another place, I...
