PENSIUNEA ROYAL — Hotel in Borșa

We travelled to the county of Maramures with a Romanian friend of ours and his girlfriend. They made all the arrangements for us and found this guest house through Booking.com. It has ten rooms, all en suite and I think most have balconies. It is a fairly new build and is extremely well maintained and clean. There is a restaurant which serves adequate food but,as is often the case in Romania, no attention is paid to serving it hot.The view from our balcony what spectacular but the immediate surroundings aren't very nice being given over to sawmills and automotive businesses. The staff were very good but little English is spoken. However the menus are in English. It's a good base for sightseeing but the roads are truly appalling. I'll never complain about potholes in the UK again. I cannot fault the prices. £40 pounds for a meal for 6. The rooms (double) £17 a night. Breakfast £2 to £4 pounds. The owner has a collection of national folk costumes which you can borrow to take photos. The area is stunningly beautiful and is popular with skiers in the winter. We had a weekend team retreat at Royal and it was absolutely brilliant. The food was plenty and very good and the desserts were delicious. The service was excellent, very skilled staff and a professional approach. Being a large group, we were given a separate play room with ping pong table, Billiards table and Rummykub where we could spend our free time and play games. We were spoiled during our stay! I recently stayed at the pensuinea Royal when visiting Borsa, the stay was excellent and the staff were amazing. The mountain views were stunning and we would definitely come back again. The breakfast and the menu in general were amazing and fresh.
