First time when I went to Baden Hotel in Calarasi I expected not much given the price 35 euros. We've chosen it because of the convenient location near the ferry, as we were travelling at night when the ferry stops crossing the river. Brilliant points: location, flexible with check in time, clean and spacey rooms. The restaurant is also brilliant with a huge (rather confusing menu) and surprisingly with everything available from the menu, even when we were the only dinners. There is a safe (CCTV s) parking right in front of the hotel. Be aware of the dogs hanging around the parking lot. They look intimidating but are actually very friendly and ignoring you at the most. ||The hotel decorum is nothing to write home about it, quiet cold and bit too kitsch for my taste but clean and in good shape. You can realise is new refurbished and properly cleaned.||The rooms in a good size and with a nice bed, more than 2 (quiet small) pillows and a bigger duvet cover would make it cosier but this is in most of the Romanian hotels. The bathroom very clean with an average power shower. Be sure you'll have your own shower gel and shampoo as nothing of the sort is provided.Only a small soap, very poor quality which gave me a horrid skin itchiness for a few hours afterwards. ||Very friendly and nice staff, although the chambermaids started cleaning the rooms' around ours very early and with a very noisy vigour.||So overall.... a very good value for the money, highly recommended for the brilliant location and lovely river's view. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor space by the river, which must be lovely in the spring/summer season. We've been twice and planning to...
Read moreLooking for accommodation in Calărași for a group of 30+ people is not easy: out of the 4 hotels and one B&B that were large enough, only two were acceptable and responsive. ||||We selected Hotel Baden because it was cheaper, quieter and close to the ferry to Silistra, as we were planning for a night tour in Bulgaria.||||The hotel is easily reachable from Călărași and has very classic decoration both in the common parts and in the rooms. The service was prompt and without any issues. The rooms are decent in size and have a view on the river Danube, giving a certain feeling of intimacy which you can rarely find in this kind of hotel.||||Unfortunately, despite the conspicuous non-smoking signs and the assurances from the staff that the whole hotel is non-smoking, the room had an ash tray and a very powerful cigarette smell, which was quite unpleasant for the non-smokers.||||The breakfast was served in a separate wing which can only be reached by going out, which can be disturbing during rainy or winter days. The food was decent, but the staff was slow to replace the...
Read moreBaden Hotel in Calarasi has a fantastic location on the border of the Danube in South-East Romania. From the terrace you can see two ferries, one to Bulgaria and the other one into the direction of Constanta.||The signposting from Calarasi could be improved although it's easy if you know that it's close to the ferries.||The personnel at the reception is friendly, but not really proactive towards visitors (at least towards me). They just seem to do their job. The rooms are clean and the beds are not too bad. Showering leads to a wet floor (which is a common trouble in Romania). During my stay the electricity was interrupted in the morning, so their was no coffee at my breakfast. But more inconvenient was the rather poor quality of the bread and the breakfast as a whole.||Conclusion: there is room for improvement in a...
