Hotel Sunny Hill — Hotel in Cluj Metropolitan Area

We booked this Hotel because of its 4 star category and the loction on a hill. It was our first time in Cluj, so we were not aware of the traffic situation neihter the relation of distance. The Hotel is about 15 mins away from the city center. It is located in a quiet and safe environment with a nice view towards the hills, where you can have some good walks/hikes. They have enough parking lots and the plaza in front of the hotel looks nice. Also the lobby was nice and clean. Staff spoke English, was friendly and helpful. We got a room in the second floor (elevator available). They have at least one cat strawling around the entire building, which is funny and cute on the one hand, but might be an issue for people with allergies. And especially during breakfast times, I do not like to see a cat running around asking for food. Our room was facing backsides towards the hill, which we enjoyed. We had a balcony and dedicated seating facilities. Room was "cleaned"...theoretically. Once we entered the bathroom, we recognized a strange film on the tiles and in the gout between the tiles in the shower. It looked like mold. Something you do not want to see in a 4 star hotel. We complained at the reservation and the next day someone from housekeeping came to clean it again. But even after this second attempt, it was not completely removed. Breakfast was good with cold and warm dishes to select. Fresh friuts, continental breakfast, English breakfast, cereals and coffee making facilities in a venentian styled room. Unfortunately they neither have machines for a hot milk nor offer a hot chocolate on request.

This review is a difficult one. By rights, this place should get a 4 star review based on the good facilities and room. Plenty of parking, great suite with jacuzzi bath, separate cloakroom and bathroom, large separate sitting area, 2 TVs etc and even a decent breakfast - yet somehow it fails to satisfy. It feels unloved - essentially as if the manager couldn’t care less about it and isn’t actually managing his staff. |There’s clearly no one bothering to clean the stairs as a potato chip has been sitting there for 2 days, vacuums are left lying around the upstairs landings all day looking untidy, our room - the best in the hotel - has a tv stand with shelves that haven’t been dusted in weeks. In short the housekeeping leaves a lot to be desired. |The staff (who have accommodation opposite the hotel) are loudly partying and singing until gone midnight so forget about opening bedroom windows if you’re on that side and looking for an early night. That’s a problem when the aircon is like a mouse’s cough, simply blowing ambient temperature air around. Despite numerous nudges to the manager about this and the poor wifi, nothing was done. |Unlike other hotels where you’re greeted on arrival at the hotel, you’re totally ignored here by everyone on reception without fail. |It’s such a shame as it wouldn’t take much effort to massively improve this hotel although the aircon and wifi would probably take a bit of money to sort out. |Many of the other issues could be resolved if it were only shown a bit of love by the manager….hotels are all about hands- on management and there is zero pro-active...

Stayed here for one night as part of an organised tour in August 2022. We arrived in the evening in the middle of a thunder storm. The hotel is a fair way out of town but is fairly modern so given some of the previous reviews, it might have been renovated. ||||Check-in was quick and we were given a twin room on the top floor. The lift was a little small, but worked okay. The room was an okay size. The beds were a little soft and the pillows weren’t the best but everything was clean and tidy. As well as the beds, we had a small table, 2 chairs, desk, tv, fridge and wardrobe with safe. The air con didn’t really work and the fridge didn’t really get that cold. ||||The bathroom was an okay size, with a dedicated shower. The water pressure was okay and so was the temperature, but ours didn’t drain that well. The towels were okay too but the toilet paper was a thin ply. ||||We had dinner at the hotel in the evening. The staff were great, very attentive and speak good English. I had an alcohol free beer and a pizza which were both really good. It was still raining but in nicer weather the restaurant would be quite romantic. ||||Breakfast was good - the usual cold selection of cheese and meats, breads, jams, pastries and even biscuits. The coffee machine didn’t work that well from what others said and the juice was a bit strong. ||||The wifi had good signal and speed which was good.
