Pensiunea MAI DANUBE — Hotel in Eșelnița

After hours of driving we were happy to get to hotel for “peace and relaxation” as promised on website. Sadly, we arrived just as a big, noisy event was starting in their restaurant. From the afternoon, all evening until early the next morning we were subject to very loud music and people just in front of our balcony. We could not take a nap, no dinner in the restaurant (we had to find somewhere else), no relaxing, no peace, no view of the Danube (had to keep curtains closed). Just waiting and hoping that soon the sound and vibration from music (Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne), raucous noise, bright lights from the partiers will stop soon.||||Three times we tried to talk to the manager (arrival, later in the evening and morning of departure). When we could finally pull her away from caring for the party guests, she lied to us about what time party would end (telling us what time the kitchen would close but music, etc. continued much later). Refused to acknowledge that this was not the peaceful accommodation they promise. She was unsympathetic, unapologetic, indifferent. Also very quick to say she will charge our credit card in full.||||Next morning with very little sleep and headaches from hours of loud music we wanted to leave without breakfast even though this is included in the price. We didn’t want to spend one more minute in this unfriendly place. With cash in hand we dutifully went to reception to pay. Again voicing our complaints and asked her to be fair and reduce the price. She got angry, refused to take any money and told us to leave and not pay anything. She left to another room leaving us standing alone at the reception. We waited a few seconds and tried to say something else. She did not answer nor did she come back . . .so we left as she told us to do. Then she told Booking.com we did not respect hotel policy and left without paying. ...

We spent a few unforgettable days at Pensiunea Mai Danube in Eșelnița, and it genuinely felt like home. From the very first moment, we were welcomed with warmth and kindness. The staff were amazing, friendly, thoughtful, always ready to help. And Florentina, the owner, is truly something special. She radiates warmth and care, and you can feel her heart in every corner of the place.

The entire place was spotless. Everything, from the room to the common areas, was super clean and clearly cared for with love. It made the whole experience feel even more comfortable and relaxing.

We felt so safe and at peace that we didn’t even bother locking our room door. That kind of trust doesn’t come easy, but here, it just felt natural. Our room had a view over the Danube that left us speechless every morning. There’s a calm in that view you can’t really describe, you just feel it.

The food was incredible. I’ve never been one to eat fish, but somehow, here I did, and I enjoyed every bite. Everything was cooked with love, full of local flavor and soul.

Our son had the time of his life. There were toys on the property, beautiful wooden ones, and he was completely in his element. Seeing him so happy made the experience even more meaningful for us.

We stayed at this hotel right by the Danube and it honestly made our trip in the Danube Gorges unforgettable. Waking up to the view of the river each morning was incredible!! ||The hotel itself feels cozy but also elegant at the same time. Our room was big compared to usual hotel room sizes in the area, very comfortable, clean and had little touches that made it feel welcoming. Decor is very original too. ||What really stood out though was the staff. Everyone we met was genuinely kind and helpful, especially the manager who gave us recommendations in the area, which made the whole stay feel relaxed and easy.||Breakfast on the terrace was one of our favorite parts with the river right in front of you. It’s the kind of setting that makes you slow down and just enjoy the moment. Great value for what you pay for. ||There are multiple options for activities such as hiking, boat rides, sightseeing, and we even painted our own tote bag during the rainy day which is such a special keepsake. ||Overall this place has a special atmosphere.
