Some quick advice to the manager: PLEASE FIX THE FRONT DOOR! The heavy metal door slams really hard and the noise reverberates through the whole building. It woke me up several times at night. Those door closing devices can be adjusted so they're less like a guillotine/prison gate. Also, can you send your guests the access code so that we don't have to let people in late at night.
Apart from those minor issues this place is great; it's cheap, very clean, is in an old building with lots of light (in the kitchen) and I really like their business model. The staff don't show up much, probably in the middle of the day, and they ask you to put the fee (about 14 Euro); it's based on trust -- as is staying in a hostel generally, sharing a room with people who could, but don't, steal your stuff. In other words, they don't waste money on staff sitting around 24/7 waiting for sorry cases like me to show up.
I also like the way the manager replies to criticisms. If you look at the bad reviews he replies with good points, and a touch of annoyance. He stands up for himself and gives as good as he gets. This makes a nice change from the usual, corporate, reply which is a copy/paste statement thanking you for your complaint and assuring you that they'll be looking into it as a matter of priority. Yeah, right.
It's also located in the centre of this beautiful city, which is another reason to stay here when you come to the former...
Read moreI went thwre after booking a bec for 2 nights. I got a call after I made the booking and the lady from the histel sent me the code for the door to get in. There was no reception and no one from staff present there after 4pm which is terrible to me. The hostel looked fine and it was clean. I wanted to connect to the hostel's wifi but the password they had on the table didn't work. So I phone the no that sent me the code for the door and they did not pick up.Then I texted them about the wifi not working and they gave me an unclear explanation and then I asked for a clearer explanation via text and also if I should go as for internet from the neighbors. I asked the native ladies in the hostel if they can connect to the wifi and they were hopeless. And also a hostel full of natives is not a hostel to me! I didn't get an answer at all. I cancelled my booking gathered my things and ran to the other hostel in town literally after I texted them that I'm leaving since they have no working wifi. I did not get a text back even after my last text. I was EXTREMELY...
Read moreA very pleasant stay. It’s a family-run place, who are lovely and organised. It’s very clean. You get a free towel, there are curtains on the lower bunks, each bed has power sockets and a lamp. Lockers are below, with a lock provided. ▫️ I arrived late and did a self-check-in with no problems. Communication was good. Can pay by card. Nice enough prices. ▫️ The kitchen is quite alright, but there are no stoves. I thought a small electric induction stove might be a nice easy addition. I had a little wifi issue, occasional dropouts but just for 15 seconds or so. ▫️ Location seems a little far until you find the trams outside the university. Then you get access to everything and realise it’s not far. The 1, 9, and 13 trams take you to the Palace of Culture and just about everywhere else, and they are regular. ▫️ The other guests were fine but a few were not the greatest. Quite local people coming through to be a bit annoying on weekends and then write complaints. I can say for sure the problem...
