Hacienda de Mare — Hotel in Mangalia

Pictures not updated on website which is a bit misleading. Double room very small, to open wardrobe have to sit on bed otherwise doors don't have space to open. Mattress is very firm, feels as if you sleep on the floor and they only have 2 baby pillows. Food is very tasty, but you only have 5 main choices ( 3 based on seafood, one pork and one beef). Almost 1000 gbp for 5 days for this - not worthy. The romanian waiter very rude. We went for our dinner ( paid) and there were 5 tables in the whole restaurant. We ordered some fried courgette and aubergine for starter and then calamari and pork for mains, and the drinks. The drinks and starters came after 30 minutes, we ate and was left one tiny courgette and some greens on the plate. We pushed the plates aside and waited for mains. After 1 hour and 45 minutes, still waiting, we were tired, called the waiter and told him we lost appetite waited too long, if the mains are not cooked, make the bill for what we had and cancel the mains. He said that they don't cook the mains until we finished EVERYTHING on the starters plates. So we said okay, then cancel the mains, we want to leave. He said " it does not work like this is romania. If you want to leave you need to pay for the mains even if you don't want to have them". Though the mains, he confirmed, were not cooked . He did not apologise, nothing, he was very cocky saying that we need to go by the romanian rules if we are there (???) This last behaviour made us decide to leave 2 days earlier. Another thing, the place is behind the train lines so no car can drop you to the hotel and there are NO shops nearby. We had to walk 3.5 km to first shop as there is no bar to serve...

Pros: Close to the sea Not overcrowded, feels secluded

Cons: Expensive Lacks food variety Immigrant workers who get drunk at night, shout, and make lots of noise. It’s a hard work that might not be paid great, but they bashed into our room twice at 11 in the evening in a row because they were so drunk. Serving times are too strict and sometimes not even respected. Was late 7 minutes for breakfast and they didn’t even allow for a free coffee. On another occasion we were told dinner would not be served so we went to another restaurant Hard place to reach if you do...

Room was ok and one of the beds was very good, the other, extensible, not so much. The room itself was small, not enough chairs, no table, almost no cupboard space and some things were broken or looked bad. Also, it is next to the train tracks and it is impossible to sleep with windows open because of the noise. On the bright side, it was clean and had Air-co.
