We stayed here for 3 nights in Nov 2014 and we were the only couple!||||Pleasant and very homely atmosphere and the hosts will make you feel at home. English is not spoken here but there is warmth and sincerity to try and please. Sometimes the host will phone their children who will speak with you and any issues will be resolved, so it just takes some patience.||||The location is right in the heart of Hoteni which is just a small district within Ocna Sugatag. Accessible only with a car, unless you can arrange for them to pick you up from Sighetu Marmatei.||||There is a flight of stairs to get up to the main house where the living room and 2 bedrooms are located. Upstairs there are another 2 rooms with one that is fitted with a kitchen. But I would not bother cooking! The hosts prepare delicious Maramures food! ( soups, salads, chicken.. yeah try their chicken! all cooked in her kitchen!) Even the honey is from their own bee keeps... cant get any more organic than that!||||Rooms are spacious and all are heated ( hot water radiators) and the showers are wonderfully powerful with some rooms fitted with massage sprays!. The shower trays are a little too tight though, large people like 6 footers will have their elbows knocked. The living room is equipped with a large ( 56") LCD tv and hifi system... just like any home with a consul and a cupboard filled with tops and bottoms of traditional Maramures costumes that you can try for free!||||The back of the house is an apple orchard with hens and chicks roaming about. The rooster will crow and wake you at dawn! I think that if the place is filled with more than 2 couples it will get noisy... the doors are thin ( I stayed in many B&B, hotels in Romania and all have walls & doors that are thin!).||||WiFi is fast and reliable too!||||Its not too far from the wooden church of Budesti, Surdesti, Plopis and Sapanta ( Merry Cemetery ) provided you have a car. The surrounding landscape is typically Maramures countryside with sheep grazing and cornfields. The nearest big town with hypermarkets ( Kaufland) is Sighetu where its worth visiting the prison where people suffered during the communist days.||||Seems like its also a working farm with a hay barn, wells and sundried corn. For me, its a wonderful stay.. only because we had the entire place...
Read moreWe had an awful experience with this b&b. I cannot even comment on the quality of the accommodation because we didn't even get the chance to stay there! ||We reserved two rooms a few months in advance (by telephone and email) to be sure we will enjoy a beautiful vacation in Maramures, we called the b&b a week before our arrival to reconfirm we are coming and the guy said everything was fine. We arrived late in the evening (with a 3 year old kid) and we were told that unfortunately a pipeline exploded in one of the rooms and that they tried to fix it but could not do it in time, so they were not able to offer us any accommodation. ||When we asked to see how the room looked... they said they couldn't show us. Eventually, they recognised they completely forgot about our reservation :((( Don't ask me how this is possible, but I can assure you it is! You can imagine how we felt, especially after a long day on the road.||Eventually they brought us to another b&b, in Breb village, which was wonderful, far better than this one! For this, really thank you! We stayed in two locations, both great places with great people: Pensiunea Marioara and Casa de...
Read moreWe stayed for only one night only to rest before a long drive but we didn't know what experience will greet us at Pensiunea Maramures. The rooms are big, very clean with a bit modern aspect. The spaces outside are great, a big covered space (for about 15-20 peoples), all around the court there are only traditional buildings, even a very well preserved place with three cows inside). The hosts are great, it's a family business so you can expect to drink "tuica" and eat great traditional food. We requested for dinner and we were served with great food at very low prices, also we left the place at 5 AM and the hosts were awake and prepared us breakfast at 4:30 AM. All the...
