Hotel Aviator Boutique & Bistro — Hotel in Otopeni

I booked this hotel for the Summer of 2020 for our family of 9 - however, I had to cancel the reservation early Spring due to Covid 19 (flights were canceled, borders were closed and we were not allowed to travel - lockdown.) I personally called the hotel and verbally advised them of the cancelation, thinking it was taken care of (lady did not instruct me to do anything else at this time.) Due to Covid, everything was under lockdown, borders were closed so no chance of us traveling this summer - I canceled all hotels, transportations etc. in Romania at the same time. On Monday Aug 11th the hotel called me asking if we were going to check in. I explained that I canceled the reservation back in Spring (due to Covid lockdown) and the lady on the phone said she understood (not once did she say I needed to take some action on their website.) Today is Aug 13th and I just received charges for my reservation - it is beyond upsetting. I emailed the hotel and they now said that I should have canceled online (nothing was said to me when I originally canceled back in Spring) and that it is too late, as they already charged our credit cards. Well this is frustrating - we can't travel, we are not allowed to travel, we are not eligible to enter the country and I have done all I could to inform them not once but twice, yet they still charged me. Really liked this place. We stayed the night we arrived in Romania and then the night before we left too.||Very nice rooms- some of them were given British city names and some Romanian. We found it funny to be staying in the London-themed one when we had just come from there.||The staff were kind- one example is that we had breakfast on the morning of our flight home and it was Easter and the team had not only prepared the buffet just for us (we didn't know when we booked) but my wife is vegetarian and they really put in effort to make sure she had good things to eat.||The only thing I was less keen on (not the hotel's fault) is that I thought it was further from the airport than it seemed on the map. As the crow flies it couldn't be much closer, but because of where the access road to the airport is and other factors it is a bit of a longer distance away. Worth...

... there is ONE major factor cutting the score dramatically.||||Firstly, the hotel in really nice, great decor, nice staff, clean common areas, clean rooms etc. The one major problem in the complete lack of, or improperly executed sound insulation between rooms. I could hear everything that was going on in the room next door, including opening/closing of a suitcase zipper or similar (!!) (suitcase was probably touching wall) - and when someone coughed in there, I jumped! It sounded like he was in my room. I was obviously alone.||||Otherwise a great hotel, good location and affordable airport transfer/shuttle. I would not expect a transport to the airport to be included in such a low room-rate (like some other poeple compained about.) They charged just about the same as a honest taxi-driver would charge.
