Pension Variegated Tulip — Hotel in Satulung

We stopped at lovely Pensiunea Laleaua Pestrita while just looking for a place to stay the night and ended up staying two more days and nights.||||The rooms are new, bright, spacious, and sparkling clean, but what really makes this pension worth seeking out are its beautiful location and the owners. It is obvious that this is a labor of love for Jenny and Dorel; they want the best for their pension and their guests and could not have been more kind or hospitable during our stay. Jenny speaks English very well, and staying with them was more like a homestay (in a very comfortable, en-suite room) than a regular pension stay. They cooked delicious traditional food for us using homemade/home-grown ingredients (cheese Jenny made from their cow’s milk, soup from mushrooms they collected in the forest, homemade jams and preserves made from fruit in their orchard—the list goes on and on). They also took us around to show us interesting aspects of their farm and the traditional village of Fersig.||||And the location of the pension was stunning--surrounded by fields and distant mountains. We saw lots of wildlife and gorgeous sunsets every evening.||||Truly, I can’t say enough about our experience at this beautiful pension with this lovely family. Our time there has given us incredible insight into Romanian traditional life, and we feel we have gained new friends...

We were simply looking for a room in the country side of Maramures, Romania. But we found so much more.||||Fresh homegrown and homemade food, created with love by Jenny. Palincă(a locally crafted alcohol) when ever you might desire it.
