Hotel Leul de Aur Sebes — Hotel in Sebeș

Reception - a young, tie half-mast - whose first words were “buletin’ not “bine ai venit”. What a miserable young man. I was given a room at the back of beyond - up in the lift, down some stairs, up some more stairs then down a corridor with a suitcase (I’m 70) - thanks mate. The room was dark and gloomy. On one wall, was a ‘window’ looking at a wall only 15cm away! Can you believe it? The other window looked down a gap between two walls so little natural light penetrated the room. The window only had a curtain which covered half the window! See photo. The air |conditioning didn’t seem to work and the temperature remained at more than 26C all night.||Breakfast was in a depressing, soulless and depressing room. It wax OK but thankfully forgettable. ||I had my evening meal in the hotel’s separate restaurant and that was poor.||Overall a disappointing stay in a hotel...

Update 2024: I’ve been eating there a lot recently because this restaurant is probably one of my favourites in the whole of Romania now! The food is absolutely excellent! The menu is varied, the quality is very high and the dishes are absolutely delicious. I’ve developed a soft spot for the Sachsen omelette with cheese and mushrooms, I could eat that dish every day, so tasty!

2022: Excellent 4* hotel, especially the new wing! Got an advance viewing and it's absolutely gorgeous, I look forward to it to open soon! It has an amazing and gorgeous wedding or events venue that can probably seat 200-300 people. The restaurant is also excellent, it's the go to place for catching up with friends in Sebeș. The room was clean and the bathroom was well arranged. The room had a small but effective balcony. It is a elevator and to get to our room was a bit tricky because we have to descend a few steps back and go through another stairwell. The hotel is right next to the main attractions of the city snd there are a lot of shops around.
