This is not a 5 star hotel - it's a 3 star hotel with a lot of marble. Like a lot of places in Romania which try to market themselves as "luxury" they miss the mark because they seem to have zero attention to detail and minimal to no understanding of what "customer experience" is and why it matters.
Examples below. Overall this hotel is form over function, it leaves one feeling like they've spent time in a deserted mausoleum, and once you step outside and finally get away from it, you feel like you've escaped prison and re entered a world of humanity and sunshine. I highly recommend visitors to Sibiu skip this hotel and instead stay at a lovely B&B which will give you a true warm, personable, local experience with charm.
2 stars for the overall hotel, 4 stars for the staff, especially the international staff who were all very friendly and helpful. The one time the bar was open, the bar tender was very friendly and took great care of us. The second time we came, the bar was closed and we tried the spa but it was the opposite experience. I would recommend to the Romanian staff to try to smile more and be more friendly, sometimes it felt like we were bothering them or disturbing their day by asking questions or interacting with them and they just had to do their job. Just overall a lot of the Romanian crew seemed sour.
Examples: There is no pedestrian entrance or exit from the hotel, if you want to step outside and walk to the park next door, you have to walk along the car access, through the parking lot, and around half the hotel to get to the cross walk to access the park. There is no other way in or out of the hotel. I would say this is a hotel designed by the Comminist party but it was built after the fall of the Communist regime in Romania so there is little excuse for such stupidity in design. The hotel bar is closed on a Friday at 2 PM The spa is an after-thought: it is in the basement, with no ventilation and no windows. You walk into the "relaxation room" and it reminds one of a gas chamber. The women's changing room faces the men's changing room and both doors to them are blocked open, so the men and the women have a perfectly unobstructed view into each other's changing rooms. There is one shower, which doesn't close and zero privacy, with one single bar of soap in it which I assume every woman who showers uses - it is an unusable shower. The "changing room" is actually one tiny closet with a flimsy folding door. Overall changing there just felt awkward, unclean, and unsafe. The massage, a deep tissue massage, was so-so, my massage therapist had good technique but somehow similar to the overall hotel experience, the massage ended up being more stressful than relaxing because of a lack of focus on customer experience. She didn't communicate at all before the massage, no introduction, no asking what kind of massage I wanted, any areas I didn't want her to touch, etc. She was friendly and responsive once I started communicating with her, because she jerked my shoulders and neck in a way I wasn't expecting and did not want repeated. After that she applied good pressure and her technique was solid.
What really ruined the massage was she wasn't very considerate of privacy (she moved my under garments without asking, I'm a woman too so I see why she would think this isn't a big deal but it made me very uncomfortable; and when she repositioned the sheet or I flipped over, she removed the sheet completely which also made me feel unnecessarily exposed) and she used jerking, abrupt movements when she was done with any one area. Overall, I left just as tense as...
Read moreI cannot begin to explain how disappointing, disgusting, and overall worst experience I have had in a luxury branded hotel. While this was not the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, this is definitely the worst Hilton I have stayed at. Hilton needs to send inspectors to see the complete disappointment this hotel is. How they carry the Hilton name is beyond me. First off this is barely a three star hotel. Furniture inside the room was so filthy (dark disgusting stains) that I asked just to have it taken out of the room.
The concierge/bell hops none existent, and just watched with amusement while they smoked and we struggled with suitcases going through their rotating door, without lifting a finger or offering a luggage cart.
No amenities to speak of, barely enough towels (only two ratty towels, two hand towels and no washcloths!) to last the day, and the housekeeping always found a way to disappoint by either leaving trash and used coffee cups in the room, not showing up during the day, or barging into rooms at 0630 in the morning (happened to a co worker).
The maintenance staff barged into our room for no reason (we suspect the maid called them because my wife had the patio door open to get fresh air) just to complaign about the patio door while she was resting. The food was disappointing to say the least and the Romanian Resturaunt on the hotel grounds had some of the laziest and apathetic wait staff of any restaurant I had been to during my 6+ weeks in Romania.
There are some bright spots, the spa and the spa staff were amazing! It was wonderful to go through all of the different saunas, Jacuzzis, and steam rooms. Their massage services are also top notch. 5 stars for all of the staff in the Spa area. Also the wait staff in the breakfast area where also great and kind.
The location of the hotel itself is nice, remote but a quick bike or scooter ride will put you in downtown city center. The restaurant across the street was wonderful too, and the Sibiu Zoo also across the street is a nice place to visit for a walk.
Overall if this hotel had any other name besides Hilton, I would not have left this review, but becuase it IS a Hilton there is a certain level of expectations that this hotel, their management, and housekeeping staff just consistently fail to meet.
Look elsewhere for a hotel and avoid this...
Read moreI stayed at Hilton Sibiu in July 2025 and had a terrible experience. Loud music was playing until past 1:30 AM, and despite several calls to the reception, nothing was done. I had a severe headache and couldn’t sleep all night. This is unacceptable for a hotel under the Hilton brand. No apology, no compensation, no solution. Avoid if you want peace and rest.||I was extremely disappointed with the spa at Hilton Sibiu. The entire area has a strong damp smell, and the towels provided were nothing more than torn pieces of old fabric. The bathrobes were ripped and in very poor condition.||The spa officially closes at 8:45 PM, but instead of kindly asking guests to leave, staff simply turn off the lights while people are still inside — which is both rude and unsafe.||Additionally, I noticed that the shampoo and shower gel bottles in the pool changing room are clearly refilled — they are not original Hilton products. Even worse, staff don’t seem to care which bottle contains shampoo and which one contains shower gel. The result is a very disappointing and unhygienic experience, far below the Hilton standard.||The Club Lounge at Hilton Sibiu was very disappointing during my stay. For three days in a row, the food offered was the same: cold pasta with a small amount of red sauce — and it was literally cold, not even warm. There were also fried potatoes and something deep-fried that looked like pork (I didn’t try it, so I can’t confirm). There was no variety or effort in the food selection or quality.||To make things worse, the coffee machine was often not working — usually out of water and needing cleaning. No staff member was present most of the time to fix the issue. Guests had to wait or simply go without coffee.||Tables were frequently left dirty after previous guests, and no one seemed to take care of the space properly. Altogether, the lounge did not meet the standards expected from a Hilton Club...
