Hotel Residenz really exceeded our expectations. We only stayed one night, after a long drive from Sibiu. Once we realized that we would be arriving several hours later than planned, we called the hotel to make sure our reservation wouldn't be voided. The receptionist was very helpful over the phone and assured us that the reception would be open 24 hours and we could arrive at any time. When we checked in at 11pm, we were even offered help with our suitcases since there is no lift. The check-in (and the check-out the next morning) was fast and easy. The staff were so nice! One thing to note though--the phone number for the hotel on booking.com does not match the one on the hotel website. Use the number on the actual hotel website! ||Our room was very clean and quiet. The bathroom sparkled, great shower! We had the 4 people corner suite with a little balcony that overlooked a few vegetable gardens, away from the road and the trains. We heard a few dogs and chickens once we opened our window in the early morning, but certainly not enough to disturb sleep. The hotel provided us with linens and pillows for the pullout sofa in the living room. We were sad that we had to leave early in the morning to drive to the Bukovina monasteries and on to Iasi. We would have loved to stay longer and would definitely stay here again.||Just a few more things: The breakfast buffet was included in the price of the room, which was really a good deal. There was a good variety of breads, meats and cheeses, even though the hotel wasn't fully booked. ||The hotel is close to the railroad station, but not to downtown Suceava, so a car is helpful. There is free off the...
Read moreThe good: ample room, adequate furnishings, great mattresses, impeccably clean room and bathroom, adequate toiletries, nice towels, functioning air conditioning, adequate minibar, nice terrace. Good size restaurant with local fare, modest but palatable. Nice breakfast (for the early bird - see below). Well-wishing staff. Free parking on premises, or on the street.||The not-so-good: very noisy location, on road with traffic 24/7, makes it impossible to sleep with open windows. As it is close to the station, train engines park on the tracks across the road and one can hear all night specific engine and whistle noises. No elevator and no help with luggage. Spotty wi-fi. Far from city center, you need a car or a cab.||The ugly: Inept policies of (not)training personnel and general overall management. ||Examples:||We weren't able to get any local color or recommendations from the staff other than "check the internet". ||Make sure you go to breakfast early, since items are not replaced as they are consumed. ||Minibar items are not replaced. ||TOILET PAPER is not replaced and had to make a special request. ||Beware of your belongings as left-behind items are stored but you're not told they were found unless you inquire specifically. Rather...
Read moreStaff here were great, 24hr reception, spoke great English and were very helpful. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms very clean. There is no lift, I was on the first floor so no issues but for some this maybe. I am sure if you were to let the hotel know they would be able to ensure that rooms are available on the lower floors where possible. The food was nice and had a meal in the restaurant, which was very tasty. To note, the hotel is not in the centre of the town (near the historical sites) it is in the newer part of town by the train station. Taxis to the centre were about $3 and easy to find negotiate - They all have meters and a receipt is issued. Being near the railway station is good for the early / late trains - for any light sleepers - you may need earplugs as trains do run very early / late. Personally this hotel was exactly what I needed...
