When we booked this guesthouse at the foot of Retezat Mountain, we expected a relaxing experience next to the forest. ||Well, there's a large wedding hall within the premises of Pensiunea Retezat! And yes, there was a wedding on Saturday evening, with more than 100 participants, most of them arriving by car.||I actually suspected that something is weird about this place when we arrived at the facility on Friday evening and found a huge parking, almost empty (just a couple of parked cars, here and there). I was wondering why do they need a hundred vehicles parking facility for an accommodation with less then 20 rooms. ||I found out the answer next evening, while returning from a long hike in the mountains. The parking lot was literally packed and the guesthouse surrounded by dozens of people dressed up for the wedding. Then started the party. ||Otherwise, the guesthouse is chic and clean. They also run a trout farm on site, so it's a good place to try a grilled trout with polenta, next to a glass of wine. The terrace is surrounded by pine trees, making the outdoor dining a real pleasure. ||There's also a small pool for the guests. The water is not heated but in July was just perfect. ||All in all, everything is nice except for the wedding venue. Probably, Pensiunea Retezat is a decent place to visit outside the...
Read moreGreat disappointment!!!
I awarded a star for the perfect location, but the food was horrible and of a very poor quality!
The menu includes certain dishes that, in fact, do not really exist. The phrase "we don't have that!" is the one who greets the customer!
I ordered a traditional plate and fried trout with polenta and garlic sauce.
The trout was much too fried, you really couldn't eat fish meat, all the meat was burnt. The trout was served puffed from too much frying. The polenta was cold, it had no taste. The garlic sauce was the biggest disappointment, it was synthetic! unfortunately, it wasn't made by them, from garlic, but it was the kind of sauce similar to the one from KFC!
It’s a shame that wonderful location to make fun of the food you serve!
As a recommendation, focus on a few dishes that you have both on the menu and in the kitchen and honor that location with them! Stop making fun of customers, location and the food...
Read moreWe stopped at this hotel for a meal. The location and grounds are excellent. The customer service - worst I can remember experiencing.
Upon asking if we could take a look at the menu, the server gave me a displeased look and told us in an annoyed tone that only 5 items were available.
I asked if there was a problem and she replied that they had just finished a wedding and they were tired.
We decided to stay and ordered 3 meals (they had no vegetarian options among the 5 available). She brings 4 meals instead. The meals were fairly pricey and tasteless. Finally, the credit card machine was not working so we had to pay cash.
I wouldn’t recommend this place for...
