We booked our 2-night stay over Christmas with Pensiunea Nagy well in advance (28 July 2017) at the cost of £ 53.00 (approx. EUR 60.00). We instantly paid the deposit of EUR 30.00 in September when this was requested by the management. Yet, on our arrival at the pensiunea the owner refused letting us stay on the basis of our confirmed booking. Instead he tried to coerce us into buying a Christmas package at the almost four times higher price of EUR 238.00! We were told that we had to either accept it or leave. He added that we wouldn't find a cheaper and even a vacant room at all on the Christmas Eve. After a long and stressful argument, during which we threatened to involve the police the owner reduced his demand first to EUR 158.00 and then to EUR 100.00, of which EUR 30.00 was already paid by the way of deposit. Thus we were coerced into paying the surcharge of EUR 40.00 (67% more) because the only other option was to spend Christmas in the street in sub zero temperatures!||We were given a room with no sound insulation over a noisy parlour, where loud talking continued until well after midnight. The internet did not work, and the light in the room was dim and the staff was extremely rude.||Please be aware that the advance payment is requested to be done by the way of bank transfer, which adds extra £9.00 if done from the UK. It took us weeks and the involvement of Booking.com to get a confirmation of the receipt. ||Contrary to the stated the pensiunea is at least 1.6 km from the center, which is not walkable in 9 minutes. It took us around 30 minutes to get there.||Contrary to the stated, the management does not speak English and would immediately put the phone down when we tried to phone them. They even failed to respond to our email in Romanian, in which we requested the confirmation of receipt of the advance payment, either. Yet, there is more to be said about their use of languages. When I tried to explain the owner that being Jewish I cannot been interested in his Christmas package that included 'lots of pork', he stopped communicating to me in Romanian, which I understand and can speak to a degree, laughed nastily and then shifted to German, which I do not speak. If you happen to be Jewish and plan to visit the town's picturesque Jewish cemetery, avoid Pensiunea Nagy place at any cost. Please note, that our experience with Pensiunea Nagy was very different from what we had in any other hotel in Maramures, which we visited twice in 2017. My rating for all other places, and there is almost a dozen of them, would be in the range between 'very good' and...

Spent Christmas there and was one of the worst in my life. I thought my expectations may be too high but no, it weren’t, not too this level.
It was 5 days/4 nights ‘traditional’ Christmas all inclusive break. Supposed to be…
all inclusive where you had to pay 8 RON to drink a beer, all inclusive where there was no home made wine, only wine available was from carton (150 RON per 10l), cheap one, all inclusive where to you had to pay extra to have lunch (for instance when back from Mocanica trip), Breakfast wasn’t the great but if you woke up too late, most of it was gone and not replaced, Dinner wasn’t good (majority meat with lots of fat) and in small portions, who knows the food - for example you had like 1-2 max Sarmale per person and when asked for more, they couldn’t provide, Meat/food was reused for 3 days in a row (meat not consumed for dinner was reused next day for breakfast), The same breakfast for 4 days running, Orange juice mixed with water, Two coffee machines so you had to wait good 10-20 min to make yourself a coffee, Host awful, “good impression” when on Christmas Day he’s sending all people to the city rather than entertaining within Hotel, Coming back post 23:00, all closed and no access to restaurant, Children used as waitresses, they tried hard but of course no experience and shame they had to spent their Christmas serving others and cleaning after, No Christmas spirit, no one dressed traditionally, tables are not prepared in Christmas spirit, Rooms loud, if someone is taking a shower in the house (different rooms), you can’t sleep as noise circa 60-70db from running water/old pipes, Insects found in the bed, not clean enough,
There’s probably much more to add. All done in a very cheap, awful way. Having previous experience in Maramures I can say with full confidence - this place is not good if you want to feel Romanian spirit....
