Good value for money country hotel. Only cost us around 35USD/night or around 4500 Rub for our stay in a triple room (two singles + sofa bed). Stayed 4 nights in mid-August. They accepted Mastercard. They had some beautiful cabins too but told they were more expensive, however, they could fit two or three families in them so could be quite economical. Our room was in upstairs in the main building housing the administration and restaurant/bar. Free wifi was a little slow at times. Room reception was stronger than bar reception, so go to your room if you need the internet, but even then don't connect too many devices on it. We had an end room so the signal may have been weakest because of this. Bedding in the room was clean and comfortable (mid firmness in mattress and pillows supportive). Sofa bed was comfortable too so no complaints here.||||Hotel was reasonably clean, bathrooms ok, decor nice with a kind of cherry wood look and wood laminate floors. Bathrooms grout could have used a heavier cleaning regime though. Towel warmers were good for drying wet clothes. Showers had good pressure and temperature. Rooms cleaned every few days. Some hanging wardrobe space. No iron or ironing board. Size of room reasonable. No fridge or air-conditioning. About a 10 to 15 minute walk to the grocery stores in the centre of town. 15 minutes walk to the train station or you can catch a 5 minute taxi ride for 100 Rub. ||||On site restaurant (and bar) probably the best and friendliest in Budogoshch I would say, as we did try the other places in town, (English spoken by at least one person at the restaurant). We ate at the onsite restaurant about ten times (including breakfasts). My Russian wife says they make up the cheap price of the room with expensive food, however, I think the food was reasonable with 60-120rub soups, starters and sides, 150-400 rub main meals (where can you get a chicken schnitzel for 160Rub in Australia!), beers 90-150rub (0.33-0.5l). Never had one complaint about the food. Mainly Russian fare (with some pasta) and my Russian companions and we all thought it was delicious. Breakfast was included with the deal too. It consisted of a free cranberry juice (morse), porridge also known as kasha of three choices (avsianka is the English oatmeal style), and second course. They add salted butter (maslo) to the porridge (avsianka) which makes it very salty according to English tastes (comes already quite salty) so better to ask to leave it out or take the lump of butter out yourself. The second course of breakfast changes every day. Over the four days we had frankfurters, Russian pancakes with berry sauce (bliny) which was my favourite, omelette and the last day was fried eggs with sausages. A few slices of bread (untoasted) also come with it. You’ll have to pay for tea (30 Rub) and coffee (80 Rub with milk) separately. At least it tastes good (from a proper coffee machine). It has an outdoor area too however the bees were a bit of a menace outside near the eating area.||||On the warmer summer days, keep the curtains closed otherwise the sun will heat up the room too much, leaving you with a stuffy room. This will require you to open the windows to let the air through and the mosquitoes with it. The cooler summer days were fine though.||||If you have kids, keep an eye on them if you go walking around. People have a few dogs in this village and they tend to wander around too. My son loved the playground and the trampoline. We all loved walking in the forest which is next to this hotel. We went mushroom collecting in the forest. Easy to do when you know when, where and what to look for. Apparently this area was heavy in fighting during WW2 so you will find evidence of dugouts and trenches (a few kilometres away) in the forest. I would love to have brought my metal detector to look for relics.||||Apparently they have tourists in winter too. They have a downhill single ski run with starting ramp and cable system to pull you back up. I also saw a room with lots of ice skates.||||Budogoshch itself is not much of a town but there are some beautiful old houses there. It is a scenic three hour train ride from St Petersburg (approx 300 Rub). There are some very nice lakes within half hour walking distance (or catch a taxi 160 rub for the further away lakes), and the forests in the area (several different types), magnificent. I would definitely stay at the Piligrim again if ever we go back...
