The Baikalov Ostrog Hotel definately has the potential for a 5* accommodation, if only...||- they wouldn't have saved on the matraces and supplied the beds with something more decent than 4 cm foam on a wooden box||- they would serve good quality food, instead of lowest quality canteen food.||||The Baikalov Ostrog Hotel is located just outside the one and only village on the Olkhon island Khuzir. As far as I can rate, it is the best location of all available accommodation, as it is close enough to the village to walk into it (for some nosing around or some supplies in the shop), but still has a direct lakeside position with unbelievably great views of the lake and the opposite mountain range.||||Clearly somebody has put some thought into the layout of the hotel. It consists of numerous full-wooden houses with a stunning restaurant building with floor-to-ceiling windows and the most amazing view for a restaurant building you could conjure up. The hotel complex is also fitted with two nicley wind-protected swimming pools, two sundecks and direct easy access to the lake shore for a duck in the lake, if you dare.||On arriving I thought I was going to have the best time ever.||WIFI is only available in the main restaurant building, the rooms itself do not offer WIFI access.||||Unfortunately what they might good on the layout and design of the complex, they managed to mess up with sleeping quality and food.||The bed consists of a wooden box with a very meager foam matrace laid out on top of it. Comfortable is definately something different. Luckily I was staying in one of th Lux rooms, which are also fitted with a bed sofa, from the second nicht onward, I opted for this choice.||||The second real downturn of the facility was the food. The restaurant unfortunately does not operate on a restaurant scheme, but on a russian canteen food of the worst choice. You are supplied with little stamps for breakfast, lunch and dinner, whcih need to be handed in, in order to get your meal ration assigned.||The quality of the food was appaling, never was there anything like fresh fruit supplied and always were the cheapest ingredients used. In terms of choice there were two options, take it or leave it.||I had ordered a vegetarian meal option, which was not catered for. Instead I was offered stone cold pasta with a pre-packaged sauce.||Hence on the second night, I asked for the restaurant menu (about its existence you can only find it by reading the flyers at the recepetion desk (4 buildings away). According to published information the restaurant works until 30.09.2016. Nevertheless on 14.09. I was told the restaurant does not work.||Only after having an argument, the staff agreed to prepare some plain vegetables for me.||||What a shame, the location and infrastructure holds a lot of potential, but it's currently...

I am writing a longer than usual review as there is very little information on Khuzhir and Olkhon Island that can be used to help an English speaker plan a trip if they are looking for something better than a hostel. This hotel was recommended as one of the best available but we could find little information before we came. It is situated just to the south of the expanding but unlovely village of Khuzhir. It consists of a number of wooden buildings, the reception is just a small office hut, the restaurant is a large wood and glass building near the centre of the complex and the 'hotel' accommodation consists of 12 chalets or huts each with six rooms. Another set of chalets is currently being built at the other side of the complex. There are 2 small outdoor pools, stairs to the beach and a sun deck. Reviews are confusing as they may refer to the hostel or the hotel accommodation both of which are in the same complex. We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms of the hotel side. It is a perfectly adequate basic 3 star standard. There is no phone or WiFi in the room, this is only in the restaurant. One small bottle of water is provided free on arrival, but not replenished. Similarly, beds are not made or towels replaced routinely. Breakfast may be included, but this is very basic. Tea is available free, coffee is extra!! Hopefully this will change as the idea of service arrives? In general this has yet to happen in Khuzir. The bread slices are cut into 3, and a ration seems to be one piece. However, we took more than this without problem. There is no toaster or anything but butter to spread on the bread. Also, they do not take credit cards and there is no ATM on the island so bring enough cash. They will take dollars, but at a poor rate. The staff were quite friendly but have limited English. Their target market is not the Westerner but visiting Russians and Chinese. As far as I could discover, the only other hotel on the island to research if you want a more comfortable experience is the Baikal View Hotel which I did not know of before coming and only saw from the outside. Приехали сюда семьями с детьми на транспорте от отеля, дороже чем «буханки» у парома, зато с бОльшим комфортом, за что спасибо! А встретил нас не очень-то приветливый Никита. Поселил он нас с друзьми аж через 3 домика😂 ну не беда, можно и прогуляться, отдыхать же приехали))|На мой вопрос «А где будут спать дети?» мне ответил « Вы можете разложить диван!». Потом принесли белье для детей в черном пакете и оставили... Я спросила у Никиты « Когда нам подготовят номер? Дети устали и хотелось бы отдохнуть.» на что он ответил «Номер Ваш полностью готов! Если Вы имеете ввиду диван разложить и белье застелить, то у нас такой услуги нет!!!»|😂😂😂 я подумала, что он шутит! Но нет, он развернулся и начал заниматься своими делами... Эта гостиница одна из лучших на острове! Совсем недешевая!|Откуда такой сервис?????? |Ребята, Вы что, делаете все, чтобы люди не приезжали к Вам??? Или это хитрый ход - отбить всю охоту у туристов своим сервисом, там самым сохранить природу?! 😂👏 |Никита все же попросил женщину подготовить спальное место для деток, но когда я зашла в номер, она обернулась на меня с вопросом «Это Вам надо диван разложить и белье постелить?» я чуть не упала от такого вопроса и ее выражения лица... без комментариев!!!!! |Немного отвлекусь от сервиса, а то как-то совсем грустно 😢 |По поводу номеров: у нас был люкс!!!|Номер на первом этаже домика, фото отеля соответствуют. В номере справа спальня, но без двери!! В спальне симпатичный гарнитур из дерева, шкаф, столик с зеркалом, удобные светильники над тумбочками, все хорошо. Жаль только двери нет🙁|Напротив входа маленький холодильник, вешалка для одежды и ванная комната. Ванная комната оборудована душем, биде, туалетом и раковиной, сантехника древняя и протекает. После прогулки поставили детские кроссовки на полотенцесушитель , а утром обнаружили кроссовок полный воды, как оказалось, с болера вода ночью текла... ну да ладно, за час высушили 😉|Вторая комната тоже без двери, зато имеется диван, который раскладывается, напротив тв, письменный стол, 2 бутылочки воды по 0,5л на 4-х чел, чайника и чайного набора не было! |Нам понадобилась кипяченая горячая вода, чтобы ребенку сделать кашку, так муж с ресторана нёс 2 кружки)))))|Зато гостиница располагается в живописном месте, сами домики очень симпатичные, хорошая территория! На берегу площадка, откуда можно спуститься к воде! Шикарный вид от туда! Еще мне понравилось в ресторане: такая красота, сидишь и наблюдаешь за Байкалом! Ресторан, кстати, оставил неоднозначное впечатление! Мы обедали по меню и хочу сказать, что все блюда были очень вкусные!!! А именно: солянка, салат, цукини во фритюре, перепела, блюдо в горшочке с грибным соусом, блинчики! За обед ставлю 5! А вот завтрак оплачивали вместе с номером. Ну как описать завтрак?? |- Возврат на много лет назад?! Просто столовая!!!! Причем, я не люблю яйца, творог с кашей не хотелось, думаю, хоть чай с блинчиками попью! Не тут то было! 😂🙁 разрешается ТОЛЬКО ПО 2 блинчика на человека!!!!!! Хотя я ничего другого не взяла! Как так может быть???? Спасибо, конечно, что позаботились о моей фигуре, но я осталась голодная...😢😢 что тут еще можно сказать????! Разве что дополнить: «у нас самообслуживание!»😂 и это правда! Тарелки с подносами сами убирают. |Ресторан 650м2 можно было приличный шведский стол сделать... |Грустно все это, что здесь считают это нормой, когда во всем мире сервис стремительно развивается!|По дороге к ресторану часть дома с бытом древних времен, красиво, но хочу заметить, что заборчика нет никакого и все дети лезут туда играть, а там ой как много опасных вещей находится!!!|РУКОВОДИТЕЛИ И СОБСТВЕННИКИ гостиницы, сделайте что-то с сервисом!!!!! Гостиница красивая и в живописном месте! А вот сервис оставляет желать...
