My opinion of the Silver House is coloured by multiple frustrating encounters with their irritatingly difficult wifi system. I work remotely so functioning wifi is a necessity to earn a living and the system at the Silver House conspired to keep me poor. I stayed 2 nights at the hotel after a road trip down the Kolyma Highway from Yakutsk. It was certainly a step above the hotels encountered that journey but still not good enough for my particular needs. ||||The building is apparently a re-purposed commercial space but none the worse for its previous life. The reception area, halls and my room were all spic and span - possibly newly decorated - and certainly all in good repair. The room was as others have noted, pretty small, but contained all that is required for a night or two's stay. There was a comfortable double bed (not a queen), side table that could double as a slightly cramped desk, folding luggage stand, TV and kettle with tea/coffee making supplies. There was also a standalone electric heater in addition to the city heating system that is present in most Russian buildings. The heater was welcome in the cool Magadan summer where city heating is switched off. There was no closet, just a few hooks on the wall at the entrance. This was no issue for me but may be a problem in winter when heavy clothing would crowd the space between the door and the bedroom. There was also no fridge and no hairdryer. The bathroom was fairly standard with a large shower enclosure and heated towel rail. The sulfur-smelling water took a very long time to run warm and was never really hot but that may be the city's issue rather than the building's. The bedroom had a large window that looked out on the wall of another part of the building. The black out curtains worked well in blocking light from the 4am sunrise.||||The receptionist didn't speak any English but she tried to help where she could especially with the recalcitrant wifi system. The latter had a sign in procedure requiring that the user enter a cell phone number that was then notified of a Russia telephone number that had to be called to activate the system. That worked eventually for the wifi connection on my cell phone but not for my laptop where the receptionist had to use her Russian phone for the process. The connection dropped at random intervals, sometimes several times in an hour and occasionally would not connect again without the same call in procedure. Finally on the last morning it stopped functioning entirely and would not reconnect. I was very happy to be moving to another hotel in Magadan that has a seamless and functional internet process and connection.||||Breakfast was provided as part of my room rate and taken in a windowless but nicely decorated cafe in the basement. Dishes are selected from a menu that changes each day. The menu was available in English which was very helpful and the food was well prepared and attractively presented. The meal came with a free cup of coffee that was so good I was happy to pay extra for a second cup. ||||All in all my stay at the Silver House was marred by the wifi system but it could be a suitable hotel for others that do not need...
