In 2018, this was a beautiful property with lovely hillside views. It was new at that time & one of my favorite places to stay or dine. Not anymore... the pool has thick, green algae & the water is murky. Most of the pool furniture is gone & pool tiles are missing or broken. The restaurant furniture is in poor repair - tables wobble dangerously, chair cushion covers are torn at the seams. Owners run an illegal childcare in the kitchen - a dangerous place for 4-6 children to run about because of the boiling water, hot oil, sharp knives, and working staff! Staff needs uniforms, not street clothes.||||Booking.com offered me a great deal & upgraded room. Turned out to be the room that is reserved for the worst customers: smells like a urinal after the rains, torn curtains, broken cabinet doors, malfunctioning door look, overlooks housekeeping area & outdoor kitchen with screaming children and loud staff, terrace lacks privacy because all staff & children have full view, flooring in salon is damaged & painters never cleaned drips from walls or mirror, bath towels are dingy grey||||Restaurant lacks basic ingredients or products: no Coke, no sparkling water, no EU or US whiskey, understaffed during peak hours, jam is sent in full container instead of placed in individual serving (this is hygiene issue)||||Wifi network is susceptible to hacking (or worse). Wifi doesn't always work, user beware of safety, could compromise data stored by hotel||||There are some positives -- very nice staff with great customer service, filtered water, comfy bed & pillows, fan for cooling on humid nights, good view, large garden for children, clean bedding & public spaces, cheap||||Owner was notified of the grievances and failed to connect to...
Read moreThe hotel is a budget hotel but also really nice and great value for money. We stayed here for 2 nights. One night on our way to see the Gorillas and one night on the way back.||||The staff and owner were excellent! They made sure we were comfortable and any inconveniences were immediately sorted. The hotel provides airport pick-up and drop-off at a reasonable cost. They even gave us a late checkout because our flight was later in the evening. The rooms are clean, the beds are firm and excellent for a good night's sleep and they provide water, tea, towels and soap in their rooms. We stayed in a 2-roomed apartment and my only complaint is that the sitting area was dark and so we had to have the light on even during the day. The hotel is really quiet at night and away from all the bustle of Kigali. There's a supermarket at a 10 min walk and the views are great. Our room was facing the back garden and a parking lot but they have small balconies that one could sit at during the day. They have a TV with satellite connectivity to English channels. You can book a bed only or a bed-and-breakfast. The costs are very reasonable. The restaurant has a limited range of food but it is good and wholesome with large helpings. I would, however, urge them not use the same cutting board for onions and fruits.||||There's great wifi that works really well and that's a plus!||||I would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it even when you are not...
Read moreWe travelled to Kigali as a family and stayed at Peponi. Our first experience was a little strange as Google maps directed us to the place via a difficult route, something that the host had no control over. The host was very welcoming, always willing to help so that our stay could be better. We stayed in a three bedroomed apartment that had a reasonably kitted out kitchen, with the option to ask the host for anything else that we required. There is a facility for meals downstairs, complete with a large screen television by the swimming pool. Each bathroom has plenty of hot water, and the staff are keen to help. There is a facility to hire cars from Peponi. There is not a single point on the property that is not covered by wifi, yes I actually tested this. Kigali, as one of the fastest improving cities on the continent, has a good road infrastructure that is easy to navigate using any good GPS based phone app. i had been a frequent visitor to Kigali before, but this was the first time I had driven myself into the city and was driving myself throughout the duration of my stay. It was not difficult to get around at all. There are services that deliver to your doorstep as well, including groceries, among...
