One&Only Gorilla's Nest — Hotel in Kinigi

After an unforgettable week at the fabulous O&O Nyungwe House, we simply couldn’t leave Rwanda without visiting the sister property, O&O Gorilla’s Nest, for at least two days. And what an incredible journey it turned out to be, once again!

Just when we thought nothing could surprise us anymore, we were again left speechless. From the moment we arrived, the warm and joyful welcome, complete with traditional dance and the kind gesture of Mr. Tim, the General Manager, personally greeting us, made us feel exceptionally special and welcomed. It was truly a beautiful touch that went above and beyond, huge thank you!

The resort itself is a dream come true. The forest, surrounded by lush gardens with white and pink roses, and just a stone’s throw from the Volcanoes National Park, it feels like a fairytale come to life. Our villa, with its large glass doors opening to a spacious terrace and a stunning green yard, offered ultimate privacy. The tranquility and cozy fireplace, outdoor shower, and bathtub made it feel like we had the entire place to ourselves.

We felt the same warmth and exclusivity during dinner in the library and when the wonderful Joy arranged a special outdoor dinner by the fireplace. Joy truly lives up to her name and she brought us so much happiness!

A special thanks to the extraordinary Sandra at the pool and Club One for predicting my needs and even creating a special cocktail with sparkling water and rose petals. It was absolutely delightful, just WOW!!!

Benoit, you’re a rock star! You made last minute gorilla trekking arrangements for my husband and even sorted out the permit, and the online payment issue. We couldn’t have done it without you!

The spa and activities are definitely a must try, and our favorite spot was the yoga tent by the helipad. We had the most peaceful last half day, relaxing and napping while listening to the birds and breathing in the fresh air.

The One&Only Gorilla’s Nest is probably the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The grounds are absolutely stunning; too large to walk so they take you around on golf carts and even heat the seats in the morning when it’s cold outside. There’s also a helipad if you want to fly in by chopper.

The rooms themselves are detached cabins that have an absolutely beautiful bathtub and balcony with a swing on it. You know it’s luxurious when there is both an indoor and outdoor shower in each room, and the hairdryer is a Dyson.

The resort is all inclusive, which is great because you can have food, drinks, alcohol, and activities like yoga, archery, and coffee tasting all included free of charge. You even get a fully stocked mini bar in the room included and nightly gifts (I won’t ruin the surprise).

When you go gorilla tracking, you are in very close proximity to Volcanoes National Park. The hotel is fantastic and provides not only hats and walking sticks, but even gaiters for your hike. They even wash your shoes for you when you return from the trek and give you a short foot and back massage.

I’ve given 4 stars instead of 5 because for the price, the service could use significant improvement. Specifically, the restaurant staff is quite unorganized. For every meal we ate, they brought out the food in the wrong order, and did not remember who ordered what dish (this was problematic for those with allergies). When one staff member offered to set wake up calls for us the next day, he forgot to input them and nobody was woken up.

Our recent stay at One&Only Gorilla’s Nest in Rwanda was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in luxury and hospitality that exceeded all expectations. Our driver, Olivier, was not only professional but also incredibly knowledgeable, adding so much value to our adventures.

While I wish I could remember every team member’s name, I can confidently say that the entire staff was exceptional, embodying a level of service that made us feel truly special. The attention to detail, genuine smiles, and personal touches left us in awe.
