At Sundy Praia you can get Bedbugs for 1.000€ per night!!!
We stayed for two nights at Sundy Praia in July 2023.
Our stay started already with problems regarding our transfer from the Hotel we stayed before to Sundy Praia. We had a voucher and a confirmation from our tour operator that Sundy Praia will pick us at the Hotel and bring us to Sundy Praia. The day before Sundy Praia told us that they will pick us up at the Hotel for 40€ transfer fee. For a free transfer we have to come to the airprort. Wow. What a way to start that experience. It needed 3 mails and 2 calls to clear the situation.
When we arrived we got a warm welcome and a tour of the plantation. So the bad start was forgotten.
After the first night we noticed a few bites but weren't concerned. The Hotel is middle in the forest and of course there are moskitos around. So nothing to think about.
The second night we slept very badly due to massive itching and therefore got up very early. When we looked at each other, we saw that we were both covered in dozens of stitches on our arms, legs and chest. It was clear to us that it couldn't have been mosquitoes.
When we saw small black dots on the sheets and rugs, we knew we had been bitten by bed bugs.
When we came to the front desk to check out, we drew attention to the situation. We showed our arms and legs and explained the situation. The employee just shrugged and said "oh sorry, that's your bill".
We tried again to explain that Bedbugs are a serious problem. That Sundy Praia should desinfect everything and make sure the get rid of the bed bugs. We explained that this stay was not very satisfactory for us as we also have to desinfect everything when coming home. Not to forget our main problem, a really bad and intense itching and pain.
No reaction, no excuse. Thats the way we left Sundy Praia.
After a few days, already back home, we got the bill sent to our email adress. So we wrote directly to the Manager Mr. Manuel Pereira to share with him our experience. We told him, that we understood that there might not have been an appropriate response due to the language barrier (unfortunately most of the staff speak no or poor English) but that we expect a proper excuse from him as a solution is needed.
But also the management did not response either. Not even after four weeks.
So the conclusion is that Sundy Praia is a very nice Hotel at a very nice place. People are friendly and the food is very good.
But the price compared to the service is not reasonable. If you leave your guests unnoticed after such an incident and give them the feeling that they are not telling the truth or that they are trying to get compensation by making such a claim, that is nothing more and nothing less than disastrous management. Because the employees can only react appropriately if they are trained accordingly. Mr. Pereiera probably didn't do that and doesn't think it's appropriate either. That is unfortunate. Regrettable for the hotel as well as for the...

Read moreTerrible experience! A real shame because the hotel is beautiful with a wonderful restaurant design and setting. Employees are nicely dressed and welcoming, at least at first… We went there for dinner (external guests) and were charged in dobras instead of euros, which we did not realize until the hotel called our host, who happened to be with us, the next morning. Instead of sending me an e-mail - they had my contact details via the reservation - they went through our host and then tracked us where we were having lunch in the city to « collect » the money. The front office supervisor showed up with the card terminal in his hands and made us look like thieves in front of all the other clients around who had absolutely no idea what was going on. After having paid the missing amount, I immediately wrote to the person I was in contact with to express my indignation. She did not reply until I wrote again and insisted on having the General Manager’s contact. It is clear that they tried to hide the mistake they made from their management at first and behaved in a totally unacceptable way. I never had such a bad experience in such a luxury establishment. Especially in a hotel of such a standing, I would never have imagined being treated like that. After various exchanges without any willingness to share the management contact, the F&B supervisor offered to pick-us up and offer us dinner. First of all, we had no intention of going back there anyway and then, we found it quite ironical that they went through all of these disrespectful attitudes to collect the 215€ and then wanted to invite us for dinner… Anyway, they sent someone at the airport when we left to hand back the supplement amount that they wrongly charged me (10€) and it still seemed like they did not understand that the issue was neither the money neither the mistake about the currency but really the way they handled the matter as if we were the ones being dishonest. Now coming back to what should have been the main subject of my comment : food, drinks and experience… Well… we were very disappointed by the quality of the « Noite do Principe » menu which was by far not as tasty as every other place we ate. The dishes were not at all special and seemed to have been prepared to please everyone and therefore were really lacking taste. I also have to mention that the chicken thigh that we had was the smallest we ever had. Not a good price/quality ratio at all. Last but not least, I really want to emphasize that we met amazingly kind, helpful and polite people until then and that this was clearly not representative of the locals who we really appreciate all...
