Esperanto Lodge — Hotel in Arrondissement de Kataba 1

We had absolutely no idea what to expect and were completely enchanted by Esperanto.||It’s a small, simple lodge in an exquisite location . The gardens are lovely and the setting, in between a lagoon and the beach was perfect.||There is a shady viewing platform from which you can watch the plentiful and fascinating bird life and a 5 minute stroll in the other direction takes you to a huge undeveloped beach. A 3km walk in one direction takes you to the fishing village and 4km in the other to another village.||The rooms are simple but perfectly adequate and spotlessly clean. The food was excellent. Breakfast was simple but with freshly baked bread, home made preserves and honey and eggs. The dinners were an absolute delight. Justine, Eric’s wife is an excellent cook. We had fish every night as there was such a plentiful supply locally and her skill and passion produced some truly memorable meals. Huge portions and terrific value. Drinks very reasonable too.||Eric is a charming and gracious host, friendly and sociable without ever being intrusive. We took his recommendation of an all day trip o the îles Karones which was a fabulous experience, interesting, beautiful and humbling. Our guide, Omar, was kind ( lent me his shoes when my flip flops broke!) and knowledgeable and we muddled through with my limited French. It’s true that it helps if you can speak some French but we didn’t ever find the language a problem.||The team that Eric has assembled all work very hard to maintain the laid back and relaxed vibe and we felt very welcome at all times. Clara is reserved but friendly and helpful and Maria is so sassy you can’t help but smile whenever you see her. Arriver à l’Esperanto Lodge se mérite… les routes casamançaises étant parsemées de nids de poules (vu la taille, on pourrait même parler de nids d’autruches) !||Mais une fois sur place, on a vite oublié le trajet. On découvre à l’Espéranto Lodge un havre de tranquillité au milieu de la nature luxuriante de la Casamance. Et tout concoure à ce que le séjour laisse des traces inoubliables dans notre mémoire. ||Le site tout d’abord est superbe et regroupe divers types de paysage permettant d’observer une flore et une faune très variée : grande lagune, bras de mer, plage, verger, forêt… Le tout d’une grande propreté. Le jardin du lodge, dans lequel viennent se dissimuler les hébergements, entretenu magnifiquement par le maître des lieux Éric et son équipe vient compléter cette diversité naturelle.||Pour l’ornithologue amateur, c’est un ravissement de pouvoir observer autant d’espèces différentes au sein même du domaine de l’Esperanto. Les excursions proposées vers l’île aux oiseaux ou les îles Karones permettent de compléter les observations avec des oiseaux plus spécifiques des mangroves tout en découvrant la vie sur ces îles isolées entre terre et mer.||La situation de l’Esperanto permet à un marcheur moyen de rejoindre le village des pêcheurs et ensuite Kafountine sans trop d’effort. L’autre village également accessible par la plage mais vers le nord est légèrement plus éloigné mais la promenade reste agréable.||Enfin, comment ne pas évoquer la table de l’Espéranto. Justine aux commandes prépare avec son équipe de délicieux mets. La journée commence avec un très copieux petit-déjeuner au cours duquel on déguste les confitures réalisées sur place à base des fruits du domaine : mangues, mandarines, papaye… Le tout accompagné d’un jus de fruit bio également réalisé sur place à partir des produits du jardin. La carte fait la part belle aux produits de la mer achetés quotidiennement par Justine auprès des pêcheurs. Le bœuf proposé est d’excellente qualité et il ne faut également pas passer à côté de la carte des spécialités (en n’oubliant pas de commander la veille).||Bref, un séjour ressourçant...

Esperanto lodge is where you go to relax . The lodge is located next to a calm lagoon next to the beach. The serenity and calm of the garden en the views can make anyone find peace. If you walk through the bach gate you almost instantly walk on the beach where you should really go for a swim. The Atlantic ocean there is perfect to swim in . Eric the owner is the most lovely man to have a chat with . He is always ready to help with any questions you have . Or help with planning things you want to do.
