The instructions on how to get here are clear: From St. Louis drive 30 kms to the outskirts of the village of Ndiaye, turn left and follow the Lampsar river to the lodge. There is even a sign indficating where to turn off for the lodge. The problem is Africa being Africa, the driver will start asking the villagers along he road who will tell them their village is Ndiaye and that the lodge is here, there and everywhere. Then, we you get to the village of Lampsar you will think you are in the right place. But Lampsar is the name of the river and you won't be. So, please follow the instructions above exactly.||||The lodge consists of simple bungalows along the river and the main house where the kitchen, dining room and a three bedroom room is in. We chose that option as it was more spacious and I think warmer. It was lovely with citronella candles, good bedside lights and a small bathroom with very hot shower. it was clean. There is electricity and WIFI, although that was only available in the lodge and wasn't working well when we were there. Also, I couldn't get a phone connection so it was hard to call the lodge to ask for directions when our driver got lost.||||The proprietors speak little English but the welcome is warm and they will help arrange taxis to the Mauritanian border, bird park, etc. (Note: our driver was 45 minutes late so plan accordingly.) The lodge charges very reasonable rates (a 50 minutes cab ride to the Mauritanian border at Rosso cost us just a bit more than our room!) and the food is excellent with a surprisingly large and varied menu of French food. ||||There is not much to do here except chill. They do have a few pedalo boats that you can take for a spin on the river but that is about it. We didn't see too...
Read moreThe Lampsar Lodge is an excellent choice to stay when you plan on visiting Saint-Louis (30 min drive) and/or the different nature parks/reserves in the North of Senegal. We booked 2 nights, but because of our very pleasant stay, we ended up staying 4 nights. |The location is absolutely stunning. The |The rooms were clean, with proper mosquito nets and a great shower (rare for Senegal). The pool was nice and very welcome. The best part was the dining place, which was build a few metres into the river. From it, you have a beautiful 180 degrees view over the river. Very often we spotted several birds (of pray) during the (excellent) breakfast. The French owners were also very accommodating in arranging our visits to Saint-Louis and the Djoudj Park. Furthermore, we could have a good laugh with them (although they only spoke very little English en we only a little French). The food was also very good, which was probably known in the area because several times people visited to have lunch. Big thanks to the chef, who did his best for us to prepare the excellent hamburger during the power blackout :)|All in all: great location, simple but clean lodges, a lovely view from the dining place, and...
