Set at the tip of a spit of land between the ocean and river is the colonial style La Saint-Louisienne Langue de Barbarie. Just the drive to this hotel is an experience in itself as you have to negotiate the incredibly chaotic and charismatic streets of Saint-Louis, driving through the docking area of the fishing boats, the ice factories and masses of trucks awaiting loading. ||||The La Saint-Louisienne perhaps is looking a little tired and jaded but has a certain charm of its’ own, reflected in the carved and painted woodwork scattered throughout the gardens, which infact could do with a little TLC. Reception and entrance area also features displays of artwork.||||Being there at the end of the tourist season, our group were almost the only occupants. Rooms have ensuites all accessed from the garden or first floor corridors with balconies which open to the sea. Lots of hot water with good water pressure was a great welcome after several hours driving.||||At dinner we had a three course set menu which was tasty but nothing particularly special.
